You're absolutely right! Setting the correct SIM slot with mmcli -m 0 --set-primary-sim-slot=1 works.

Unfortunately now I'm stumbling upon the same issue which is mentioned earlier where the modem fails to power on:

ModemManager[9466]: <debug> [1631826565.360615] [modem0] couldn't update power state: Invalid transition

I guess we'll just have to wait for the fix from Lenovo...

I know a guy who learned how to reverse engineer C/shared objects in order to solve the problem ASAP, last I heard it worked ok for him!

Maybe you can direct him to https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/402 in order to share his findings?

I am running an X1 Carbon Gen 9 with the EM120R modem in Arch and definitely can't get the modem to be recognised. Happy to test any Snaps or anything you can supply. Desperate to get this working! Thanks!

I have to say, it's incredible to me that users are required to reverse engineer closed-source blobs from Lenovo to get a friggin 4G modem to work on a $3k laptop. I'm sure FCC regulations are strict, but man... how about making sure your product actually works before you ship it.

I wouldn't be so salty if it wasn't for the fact that Lenovo has gone through the trouble of manually locking the modem, and hasn't been releasing the keys or the unlock tool for several months after the release of this laptop.

I'm not holding my breath for months waiting for this fix, so I ended up just purchasing a separate 4G modem for now. But it would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of your friend so I can fix this issue asap :)

Good News! I don't know if who you said contribute with that, but a great and raw unlock workaround has appeared in  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/402#note_1064882  . It works for me and now i am replying from a 4g connection on a x13 yoga g2. Need to test a little btw. Thank's community!

It's very raw, is not guaranteed to work or even be safe, it probably voids your warranty and might be illegal depending on your jurisdiction. My recommendation is to hang in there for Lenovo's proper release, which promises to bring some cool stuff:

I'll also note that the utility we provide will enable you to get the maximum power from your WWAN transmitter when safe to do so - something that I don't believe has been (legally) available in Linux before. It should mean you get the same quality of experience as in Windows.

Is that solution valid for T14 Gen.2 AMD(I’m outside of USA)?

From my understanding the fix should work on any EM120R modem with Lenovo FCC lock, regardless of laptop model. It seems like the FCC lock applies to modems worldwide unfortunately.
