Touchpad become lag and Jumping after S3 suspend

2021-05-30, 1:24 AM
My laptop is ThinkPad X1 Carbon 9th, Recently Lenovo released new version Bios which can make laptop support S3 Linux deep suspend.

After my laptop wake up from S3 Suspend, touchpad become lag and insensitive.

It's normal when I disabled S3 Suspend support in Bios and back to S2idle. I'm not sure if it's Bios or kernel driver related.

Can see some errors in Gnome-log

libinput error: event7 - ELAN0672:00 04F3:3187 Touchpad: kernel bug: Touch jump detected and discarded.

5.12.7-300.fc34.x86_64

Fedroa 34 wayland gnome 40

Hwo to reproduce this issue

- Uprade Thinkpad X1 Carbon 9th bios to latest version and enable Linux S3 suspend support.
- Close the lid or use systemctrl suspend to make Laptop into S3 suspend.
- Open the lid or use power bottom to wake up laptop from suspend.
- You will found that touchpad have lag issue.
- By the way, Trackpoint works well.

I'm also running into this exact problem. I have troubleshoot the libinput using debug-gui and the kernel's event seems laggy (at first I thought, the libinput is the culprit, but the event is laggy even before libinput). This happened after suspend especially when the battery runs out.

The X1C9 is using the Tigerlake CPU and that supports S0ix sleep, not S3.

I know the BIOS team made S3 available as we had customers request it (honestly, I would rather they hadn't...it makes things confusing). We test with and support S0ix and there are issues with touchpad and touchscreen if you are in S3 mode. We're actually looking at those - but they're low priority as S3 mode shouldn't really be used. I confirmed with Intel engineers and S0ix should be equivalent or better now than S3

Hope that helps

Mark

Appreciate for the response.

Mine actually Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 2 i9-9880H. This might be Coffee Lake but I don't find the controller info.

I tried to lookup on S0ix mode, but doesn't seems to be supported, via check on this article https://01.org/blogs/qwang59/2018/how-achieve-s0ix-states-linux.

I also explored the BIOS and find no option regarding to S3 (maybe cause mine was not supported).

Regards.
