USB-C and TB3 docks freezing Fedora on E15 20RD005KUS

2020-09-15, 22:00 PM

I'm having an issue with docks freezing Fedora. It affects our Thinkpad E15 (20RD005KUS) on Fedora 30, 31, and 32. I have tested Linux kernels 5.0.11-300.fc30.x86_64 and newer to 5.8.4-200.fc32.x86_64.

I have tested the TB3 dock on Fedora 32 5.8.4-200.fc32.x86_64 on a Thinkpad x390 with DMA kernel protection set to OFF and TB3 Security set to "No"

Edit: Sorry, I forgot that the E15 doesn't have TB3 and must be plugged into the USB-C front port to work with the 40AN0135US TB3 Dock. It still freezes using this method.

This seems to stem from the inability to disable DMA Kernel protection in BIOS. Is there a way around this?

Please see the debug log captured using netconsole.
