Will the Fedora 32 Thinkpads be cheaper?

2020-05-25, 19:34 PM

I'm super excited about the Fedora-Thinkpad partnership. It's amazing to see someone other than Dell providing proper laptops with Linux support.

When configuring a Dell XPS 15 on the Dell web configurator you save about $100 by opting for Linux over Windows. I'm wondering if we will see any price incentives to go with Linux?

Hi @ardevd

We're excited too - and things are moving along well here as we get ready to ship them.

I genuinely don't yet know the pricing yet so I can't answer your question - but we'll be sharing the details on that as soon as it's decided. As a Linux user I hope they're cheaper too :)

Awesome and thanks for responding! I'm hoping more non-Nvidia options will be made available for applicable laptops though. :)

Just spoke with Rodney at Lenovo.com and he checked with his Product Manager who indicate that the Fedora OS will not be available through midsize business sales. Only corporate clients have acess to this. Quite disappointed here as I'm eager to purchase.

@scoopnuds What you've heard from "Rodney" isn't correct. See:

As Mark has stated, the Fedora versions of the new Linux Lineup WILL be available to the general public.

Just a note - the X1 Carbon 8 is up on the site. I posted a few more details here:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Fedora/X1-Carbon-Gen-8-with-Fedora-now-live-on-the-site/m-p/5035996

The price is lower than windows. I only found out myself yesterday when it went live :)

Thanks

Mark
