Moto Z3 poor signal strength

2019-04-09, 18:14 PM

My family and I drove from Michigan to Myrtle Beach last week.  Several times in the rural areas of West Virginia and Ohio, my phone 4G signal would cut or revert to 3g.  My Wife's iPhone 8 held a signal the whole time.  Is the antennae in the Z3 really that week?

Hi ohm529,

I appreciate your post. Let's try isolating the case if it's an app causing the fluctuation. Try booting the device in safe mode.

To Enable Safe Mode
1. Press and hold the Power button until Power off comes up on the screen.
2. Touch and HOLD Power off on the screen until reboot to safe mode appears.

Also, if you're using a phone case, I would recommend removing it and observe if there's an improvement. Let me know. Thanks

Best regards,
Rich

I tried this last night, and the signal didn't seem to be any better in an area near my house where my wife typically gets better reception than my Z3.

My phone updated to Pie this monring.  I will try again this afternoon and see if that makes any difference.

Hi ohm529,

Alright, let me know if there's an improvement. Also, please update your profile with the current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate. Please make sure that the options under Settings > System > Motorola Privacy are on as well, and let me know (just reply here) if it's okay for me to look at your apps to see if they are a source of problems.

See here for the instruction.

Best regards,

Have the same issue.  Spoke to 2 different class 3 tech's, and they all give the same B.S. answer.  Must be your network or environment .  I have tested this in many ways, got replacement phone, did all resets they asked, yet I have a z2 with no signal issues when set side by side the z3.  Needless to say, they evidently know there is a problem, but would cost to much to fix it.  Again, this will be the last Moto I ever buy.

Hi Kak4276,

Thanks for posting on the thread. I'd like to further help you with this. Aside from the low network signal, what symptoms are you actually experiencing (calls, mobile data, messages)? Can you give me more details? Can you update your profile with your IMEI and other information? Instruction is on my post above. Let me know. Thanks.

Moto Z3 Play often indicates zero cell signal but can still make good quality

cell calls (not wifi). Indicated signal level conflicts with that from 3rd party

apps. Same sim and network has no such issue when in other devices.

Re:Moto Z3 poor signal strength

Hello,

Since yesterday at about 5 a.m. I haven't been able to use several of my apps (Words with Friends, Empires and Puzzles, RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch, Lemmings). Township, which also requires an internet connection, works fine, as well as Facebook, Email, Google Sheets, and YouTube. These are the only apps that I have investigated so far.

My phone had a configuration update on May 5th and I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it. My operating system is Android 9 and it looks like the last update was PDXS29.84-51-3 on Jan 18th.

Signal strength is very important to me because I receive orders for my job through an app and if they can't get through to me, I won't get orders.

Taking my Otter Box off did nothing. I didn't try booting in Safe Mode because that would have disabled the apps that I a trying to use. Also, I tried switching from my "fast" wireless network to the "slow" wireless network that my laptop is connected to and that did nothing to help.

I have attached error messages that I got from Lemmings and Empires and Puzzles. The others simply never finished connecting, just had that swirling loading sign.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi TinaraHarper,

Thanks for posting on the thread. Can you this in WiFi, if possible? And I'd like to check this further, can you please update your profile with the current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate. Please make sure that the options under Settings > System > Motorola Privacy are on as well, and let me know (just reply here) if it's okay for me to look at your apps to see if they are a source of problems.
