Issue with page loading time?

2007-12-16, 15:28 PM
I am having an issue, whether it is on my trusty R40 (2.2GHz w/1GB ram), or my T61....

Is anyone else having an issue with it taking 10-15 seconds to load a page, specifically when opening a thread?  It seems to be a GUI issue, like it is trying to load a bunch of large pictures.  I can't do anything until the page has finished loading.

It seems to me also that since Saturday morning (12-15-07) things take a lot longer, like every image, icon, etc. is to be freshly loaded, instead of using what is/should be in the browser's cache.
I thought it could be from my Verizon BB, but I guess not.
Could also be that the forum is net yet able to handle a larger number of visitors at the same time....

I've had the same problem intermittently, and I haven't found any consistency yet about what in a thread is causing it.  This one, for example, loaded immediately.

I think someone needs to clean up the HTML code for this site.
The first (overview) page alone has 9 errors and 186 warnings for incorrect HTML!

I too get intermittent slow page loading times. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.11 on an ADSL line which loads my "My eBay Summary" page quite fast (9 pages on an SXGA+ screen). Can't correlate the speed to the number of users online, the length or complexity of the thread or anything else at the moment.

I guess I should include that I am using IE7, with the latest updates.  I don't have this problem on other pages, to my knowledge...it only appears to be noticeable if I try to open up a thread.  Unlike Nonny, my issues are consistent...but then again, I haven't been on here as much as she has.

I've experienced this as well intermittantly.

I don't believe it should be a capacity issue at this point though.

The forum code shouldn't be changing, so I'm not sure about the HTML code being the culprit or else it should have been buggy in that regard from day 1.

However, RBS, could you share your findings with Esteban.  We should look into that, definitely.

Thanks!:smileyhappy:

PM sent to Esteban, with CC to Mark.

Edit: the loading is getting worse!
This on a PC with an AMD64-3000 with a fully updated XP/Pro-SP2, 2GB RAM, Winfast A6600GT graphics card with 128MB, 2x 160GB HD with about 90GB free on each, using Firefox 2.0.0.11 with 200MB Cache.

When using Firefox 3 Beta 1, it is slightly better, but still way too slow.

When using IE7, it functions quite well.
If this indicates, that this Forum is optimized for IE, then something should be done about that!
We don't want to be forced to use Micro$haft products more than absolutely necessary!
