Meta: help from Lenovo?

2014-10-01, 5:29 AM
Do Lenovo actually read along and provide input on our issues, or is this forum merely a place for us to console each other and for Lenovo to claim that they have a community?

it is a peer to peer forum which means that people like me who dont work for lenovo help out as much as possible, and also point people in the right direct for higher support if the problems can not be sorted, it can work out faster than using support

Thanks for the response. I am very fond of peer-to-peer support (being a Debian user myself), but given the recent decline in quality of Thinkpads, there are many issues that we cannot solve and I want to know if Lenovo listens and might actually do something, or whether it's futile to hope for support from them.

> Decline in quality Sure, but of course YMMV. I consider the keyboard a giant step backwards, after IBM had established the Thinkpad as the de-facto hacker laptop with an amazing keyboard. Now, I can either use End or Insert, but not both, have to look at icons instead of function keys, and continuously hit PageUp/PageDown by accident when using the arrow keys. The clickpad is also a pain to use for people who don't browse the web all day or are content with two mouse buttons. And if you've opened a X240, then you will have asked yourself how long it'll take until the casing will just break apart. So yes, compared to the X40/X41 and X201, I think the X240 represents a decline in quality.

My question could have sounded like I was challenging your comment. I was just curious as to what led to that conclusion. I agree the new keyboard takes some getting used to (though I can't say which I prefer). I haven't handled the X240, and my machine (W530) feels stout, though definitely less bulky than the OLD Thinkpads I've seen. I don't have experience with buttonless clickpads, but am wary. My biggest keyboard issue is hitting Print Screen when I mean to hit something else. I don't prefer the keyboards with narrower buttons to the right than the row above (compare X230 vs X230T keyboard, for example). I didn't want to derail the thread, I was simply curious.
