Que about structure at forum.

2008-03-20, 19:43 PM
All or many of the TP's all share the same programs like powermanagement, rescue and recovery etc.
I wonder where to put questions about these and also questions about general technical issues.
There are only "Welcome AND (!?) FAQ's" and then the Letter T, Z etc for the computers.

There must be many common questions? Maybe I am a fool. I'm all newbie at forums..

How about the "Thinkvantage Technologies" section?

You are right: Under "Special interest discussion" (!?) in the bottom of the long community page.
In my opinion that's not special interest, and I would suggest presenting it at the top.
If you disagree, please delete the whole posting, as I obviously don't understand IBM/Lenovo website concept. Isn't Thinkvantage what these branded computers are all about? :smileywink:
Have nice day!

Hi, Tom, and welcome to the forum!  You're not a fool, and we were all new to forums at one time or another!

This forum is relatively new only having opened in December, and the format will evolve over time.  What we tried to do when we laid out the initial board structure was to set up separate boards for different models of notebooks and desktops as well as options and accessories for hardware-related discussions and questions related to a particular model.

For software questions and discussions that could be across all the models, we set up boards for different operating systems, for ThinkVantage software (power mgt, Rescue & Recovery, etc), and a General board for everything else.

It's a fairly standard layout for this type forum, but as we grow and learn what our forum members want and need, we'll tweak it.  Please stick around and help in the process.  We're glad you're here!

Concern for possible lack of sub-forum for Thinkpad hardware in general.

2008-03-21, 11:43 AM
Hi.
As many parts will be the near or completely the same: disks, keyboard, card-readers, displays etc,
May I suggest a sub-forum for TP hardware in general.
(I'm a bit concerned about questions about hardware in the Z-series beeing moved and eventually ignored as the machines disappear from the market and that there are not so many users)
I've been searching  thru many posts.
The forum "General discussion" seems to be less hardware-oriented.
The IBM/Lenovo technical web-site is so huge and return so many answers, e.g "Battery life" will return 117500 answers and many seems to be machine-specfic while battery technology is general.
Even the "Hints and tips" at www.lenovo.com demands that you enter specific machineseries and operating system.
Even beeing technically interested, for me there is a lack of "soft" appoach at the Lenovo site and I think that the forum here would help me to better understanding.
How about a "hints and tips" here or links to essential information at the Lenovo site?

Regards,
