Re: Things I don't like about this forum

I don't particularly like that the forum adds a timestamp every time you edit a post.

Sure, you can delete all but the latest one, but still, it feels like a kluge and the timestamp thing is more obtrusive than those used in most forums.  In fact the "message edited" timestamps look almost accusatory, like I did something wrong by editing my post.

Supposing I edit a few times to fix spelling mistakes, look at the junk I end up with!

Also, I see the forum is still fixed-width, do people really like the narrow look?  Why not fill up more of the screen?

Another thing I don't like, 2000 character limit on PM's.  This is way too short.  Give me a break guys... I can't even respond to someone's PM adequately, I run out of space and have to send 3 PM's to hold it all.  Come on, that's bush league guys.

That there is no way to see the complete list of threads I have subscribed to.

The Dashboard popup claims I have  '2 more pages' worth of lists of threads I have subscribed to, but it provides me with no way at all to see those pages.

The 'Manage Subscriptions' links strewn throughout the forum do not behave as a user would expect, that is those links go to subscription handling configuration, and not what the user would expect which is direct management of which threads you are subscribed to.

The Forum Help and FAQ page claims there is a 'Subscriptions' tab in My Profile. There is no such tab or page. The 'Subscriptions and Bookmarks' tab is the same page shown by the 'Manage Subscriptions'  links throughout the Forum.

Hellbore,

The new PM editor has many improved features and breaks this character barrier.   You may author quite a tome now.:smileywink:

Jeni,

There should be a pair of arrows or a previous / next message to allow you to page through your subscriptions.  I'll look into the matchup between FAQ / Forum help and the actual functionality in this release of code.

Thanks for pointing this out!

Mark, I checked the code for the Dashboard page.

There was no trace of 'previous' or 'next' found in the page code.

In the page code where it displays in brackets on the page 'there are 2 more pages', there is no trace of any code for moving to other pages of threads I have subscribed to.

The mismatch is between Forum Help / FAQ and the displayed tabs in My Profile.

Forum Help / FAQ claims there is a separate 'Subscriptions' tab with a list of subscribed threads in My Profile.

My Profile only has 'Subscriptions and Bookmarks' which is for configuring how you subscribe and how things are listed.

My Profile has no actual tab for subscribed threads.

If you click on the My Profile "Subscriptions and Bookmarks" tab and scroll to the bottom of that page, there should be a section with six tabs labeled:

Subscribed Messages

Subscribed Threads

Subscribed Boards

Bookmarked Messages

Bookmarked Threads

Bookmarked Boards

Please check there, and let us know if it's not displaying for you.

No trace at all of that section on that page with those tabs, Nonny.

I checked using the web browsers Safari 3.1.2, Opera 9.5, Firefox 3.0.0.0, SeaMonkey 1.1.12 on my main desktop system.

I checked using the web browsers Safari 3.1.2, Opera 9.5, Firefox 2.0.0.17, SeaMonkey 1.1.11 on my Lenovo 3000 N200 notebook.

Identical results for that section on that page on both systems irrespective of which browser I used.

Wow - weird!  Let me poke around a little, then.

Re: Things I don't like about this forum

OK, I tried a few things.

First, I thought maybe it was role or rank-restricted, so I tried viewing it using my test ID which is still flagged as a New Member.  I subscribed to a couple of threads and messages and was able to view the list in My Profile.  If it's not restricted for a New Member's use, it's unlikely that an Active Member would be.

I also thought maybe it was browser-related.  I normally use IE7, so I checked my test ID using both FF3 and Chrome - both of them worked, too.

So far, the only thing we have in common is both of us tested it with FF3 and got different results - one worked and one didn't.

Strange.  This is what it ought to look like:

Nonny, since you can see that section on the page, could you please check the code that drives it, see if it's dependent on permitting the online spamvertizment mob omniture to be able to access a users system.
