new message notifications from lithium.com

2007-12-18, 7:21 AM
Hello,

I noticed that new message notifications are sent from Lithium's mail server and not from Lenovo, as shown in this slightly-munged mail header from a new message notification I received:

My assumption is that Lithium is hosting the forum for Lenovo and, as a result, notifications go out from Lithium's mail server.

What I was wondering is if someone could set the From: or Reply-To: field to something more Lenovoesque, such as mailer@lenovo.com or noreply@lenovo.com in order to make it easier to filter messages.  That way if I start participating in another forum hosted by Lithium I will be able to easily filter their traffic based on some combination of return email address and Subject: fields.

Regards,

thinking about it, I haven't received any notification of a new PM, (and yes I have received PMs). Have I overlooked a setting in my profile? I have looked but don't see anything. :smileysad:

Re: new message notifications from lithium.com

I haven't found any setting to notify me of new PMs, and I think it needs to be added to the "need now" list.  I had asked the following several days ago - moving it here instead:

Mark/Esteban,

Got two questions that I haven't been able to find the answer to:

1) Is there a setting in Preferences that will send me an e-mail when I get a PM like there is in phpBB and vBulletin?  (If not, whoever is keeping the comparison list for Lithium, please add it!)

2) Is 10 the limit for subscribed boards, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Nonny - Guess that is a mod "bump" of the unanswered thread ?  :smileyhappy:

1) I have found no such capability and agree it would be valueable and should be on the list.
2) I will have to experiment - it appears heirachical, so you could subscribe to categories, boards, threads, or posts and there are arrows at the bottom which suggest the ability to 'page' through - so perhaps that's how one would access more than 10?.

Categories?  How do you subscribe to a category?  The highest level in the hierarchy that I've been able to subscribe to is board, and 10 isn't enough for all of those.  I just want this for now as I'm using the e-mails to alert me when to make a moderator pass through here.  Once traffic is steady, I'll unsubscribe to everything and just cruise through several times a day like I do TPF.

E-mails alerts for PMs are a whole different thing.  That I would stay subscribed to.

Nonny,

Ok, after some experimentation,  you are right that you can only subscribe at the board level.   You CAN subscribe to more than 10.  Just keep adding them.  Only 10 will show on the main portal page, but right below them is a link that says "manage subscriptions" or something similar.  When you click it, it takes you the same part of the view as the bookmarks and subscriptions tab in the profile.   Again, you will see the first 10 subscriptions in the window, but below that you will see the forward arrows in the lower right corner.   The arrows will let you flip through your subscriptions 10 boards at a time.

I imagine that all should generate email updates to you if that is what you selected, and in the frequency selected - immediate, weekly summary, etc.

Hope that helps.

It appears you can change the default number of subscriptions displayed per page. Click the Preferences tab and look for "Number of Displayed Subscriptions".

Oh, duh!  You both are right, and it's all working now.  I can't believe I missed that.

Thanks!
