3200mhz ram detected as 2133mhz (no xmp bios settings)

2020-07-31, 10:19 AM

Hey, I just upgraded my Ideacentre T540-15ICB G from 8 to 32gb ram 3200mhz, but when I entered the bios there are no advanced/oc options to enable XMP to run the memory at the advertised speed. How can i run my memory @ 3200mhz? (Or enable XMP/or even have a decent bios?)

Thank you in advance,

Jack

Hi there JackPedro,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Looking over the documentation for the T540-15ICB_G - Machine Type: 90L1 , it has these Memory Specifications:

Memory:

32GB max, UDIMM, DDR4-2666, two 288-pin DIMM sockets * System automatically clocks down for the processors with lower memory controller

It supports up to DDR4-2666, now having that said, DDR4 will run at the JEDEC standard of 2133-2400MHz out of the box. with having to enabling XMP to actually get the listed timings....

My thoughts are that the memory supported is 2666mhz, and you are running 3200mhz, that it sets this to the standard, still, you should have a XMP profile for all I know.

Could be the case that there is no XMP profile in the "Memory" section of the device, because that XMP profile would not be applicable for your 3200mhz as the device only supports up to 2666mhz.

I would at least try to make sure that I have the latest BIOS version for the device.

You can find and install the newest drivers from the Lenovo Support Page

Just plot in the serial number for your device and hit enter, might have to hit it twice. Then head to Drivers & Software then under the BIOS section.

Regards
