Can not update the BIOS (Getting Error)

Hi,

I noticed there was a new BIOS released at https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/tr/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/legion-series/legion-t5-26amr5/90rc/90rc002tge/s5000qrg/downloads/driver-list/component?name=BIOS%2FUEFI for T5-26AMR5. Just like the April release, this one is not installable on my machine, I get the following error:

c:\SWTOOLS\FLASH\O4MJY1FUSA>IF EXIST "C:\Program Files (x86)" (wflash2x64.exe imageO4M.rom /bb /rsmb /quiet  )  ELSE (wflash2.exe imageO4M.rom /bb /rsmb /quiet  )

Lenovo Firmware Update Utility 4.6.4
(C) Copyright 1984-2016, Lenovo Group. All Rights Reserved.

Found BIOS file : imageO4M.rom
°M¢├▓5(╔:|²║ - Undefined ROM image BIOS version.

The same error was there on April release, I created a thread for it as well, unfortunately, nobody from Lenovo provided support.

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Desktops/Legion-T5-26AMR5-Desktop-Install-error-BIOS-Version/m-p/5074822?page=1

This is completely unacceptable from Lenovo.

I would like to get this fixed ASAP.

Re:Can not update the BIOS (Getting Error)

Finally Success:

Not sure which of the following finally worked.  (Just this is everything I've done since last time)

1. Created a Windows Restore Point

2. I had an old (temporary) graphics card installed that would not output POST test or BIOS Screens.   I replaced that with a new 3080TI.

3. I removed the PC from power completely (a few times in the past I've had problems with Lenovo not fully rebooting without removing power)

4. I installed the latest video driver from the EVGA website (6/2021)

5. I installed the X1 Utility from EVGA (which did a firmware update to the video card)

6. I ran a "resize BAR test" in the X1 utility, which it failed due to old 1C BIOS

7. I ran some Overclock Utilities and Video Benchmarks

8. I Created another Windows Restore Point

9. I tried the Lenovo BIOS UPDATE AGAIN

A. Run Command as Admin

B. CD to Directory where ROM is Located (SWTOOLS\FLASH\ROM.......)

C. RAN FLASH.CMD

This time (with the new video card) the BIOS screen came up and continued the flash process for several minutes. [Unlike when I had to do the 1C update via windows update and it only took a few seconds and never did the normal BIOS FLASH update one would expect].

This time it completed fully to 100% and Windows System Information shows the correct BIOS version.

My best guess (in my case) was that because the BIOS / BOOT screens could not be output to any monitor (on my temp video card) it could not complete the process.  I had monitors on all 3 ports, but none would ever show a boot screen, nor could I force BIOS mode.    Maybe the flash process was looking for something more modern than the 560TI I had installed.

Or maybe there is some dependency on the BIOS version of the video card.

Or maybe pulling the power cord for a few hours

Or maybe the PC gods felt generous today vs previous days.

I wish you luck.

Hello @melid ,

Thanks for reaching out.

Would you mind posting the current BIOS version you have on the machine right now?

Re:Can not update the BIOS (Getting Error)

Hi @Jack_Lenovo1 ,

Thanks for the reply.

Here is the current BIOS version:

I tried updating via Windows Updates/Optional Updates but there is no optional update at this time.

Also, Device Manager shows Firmware and System Firmware with !

Re:Can not update the BIOS (Getting Error)

Similar problems (as with April BIOS 1C)

This time when I run the executable it seems like it is doing the update.  It powers off the machine and restarts it, but System Info still says 1C as the BIOS version.

I don't get any feedback when it reboots (nothing on the screen).  Until my Login starts.

If I start "Command" run as admin, and then launch the update (Flash.cmd ? not in front of my pc right now) I have the same results (looks like it doing something reboots a few times, ,but system info still says 1C).

I canceled my service call case# is 2002128069 to replace the motherboard back in April, maybe I'll open it again and try to get a new MB.

It is a shame I want to upgrade to a 5900X CPU but I don't trust the MB or Lenovo anymore.   So If I go to 5900X then I feel a need a new MB, and case, etc.  Since I replaced the GPU, and PS already, I might as well toss the Lenovo in the trash since there is nothing left to replace.

Re:Can not update the BIOS (Getting Error)

Latest Update (Aug Release for July Firmware), worked for me.

1. Downloaded EXE package

2. Opened "Command Prompt" as Administrator

3. Run EXE Package (several reboots)

The only funny thing for me is that even after the automatic reboots, the next time I rebooted manually, it still finished up another part of the installation.

So I guess my advices is to reboot manually a few times even after it looks like it is done.

Since there are no details in the change log, I could not tell you what was improved.

Also non of the Lenovo "Auto Updates" tools found the update, had to do it manually.

Re:Can not update the BIOS (Getting Error)

The only thing that helped was a new mainboard from technical support... now BIOS update works fine!
