Compatible 2933MHz Ram for Legion Tower 5i Desktop?

2020-09-24, 19:38 PM

Hi all, I have the Legion T5-28IMB05 Desktop Model 90NC001KUS. Absolutely love this rig and it is a beast! However I am extremely confused about what RAM is compatible. I checked and the system has x2 of UDIMM,8GB,DDR4,2933,Hynix which is part number 5M30V06814. I do not see any option to buy more of this Hynix brand RAM on the Lenovo website. Further I cannot find it for sale anywhere on the internet. I want to upgrade my system to 32 gb total (x2 more sticks of 8 gb). I have looked everywhere on the Lenovo website, as well as, in the user manuals and I cannot find a list of compatible RAM other than UDIMM,8GB,DDR4,2933,Samsung which is listed as an “equivalent” but it is also not available to buy on the Lenovo website or anywhere online. I know that not ALL RAM is compatible with ALL motherboards. Further unsupported RAM can lead to instability and issues. Is there a list of compatible 2933MHz RAM for the Legion T5? Many thanks for help regarding this issue!

So after more research I realized that Lenovo had pictures of the compatible UDIMM,8GB,DDR4,2933,Samsung RAM on the website. I have attached the Lenovo photos. The Samsung product name is M378A1K43DB2-CVF. Searching online with the Samsung product name I was able to find a seller and purchased two more sticks.

FYI, you can follow these instructions to determine the maximum supported memory on your computer:

https://www.shareus.com/computer/2-steps-to-check-maximum-ram-capacity-of-your-computer.html

So this tells me that my Legion Tower 5i Desktop supports 64GBs of RAM.  To figure this out you take the results from the above link and divide it by 1048576 to get the supported number of GBs of RAM.  Then look at the number of slots that you have for RAM.  My Legion has 4 slots so you take the total system supported memory 64GB and divide it by the number of slots, 4 in my case, and you end up with the maximum amount of RAM each slot supports which is 16GB per slot in this case.   Note: If you buy RAM that is faster than 2933MHz that's fine, the system will work but just run the faster RAM as the slower 2933 speed, but that's okay (just don't pay a lot more for the speed since it isn't leveraged).  Also, you can't put 32GB into one slot, 16GB is the max per slot.

Update: I just removed my single 8GB DIMM and installed four 16GB DDR4 UDIMM pc4-24000 3000MHz Viper Steel (by Patriot).  As expected my Legion desktop is now running with 64GBs of RAM.

The mother board could go higher.

It is the I7-10400 only support 2933.

For i5 version the CPU only support 2666.

Having the same issue. Bought ram rated at 3000 and when installed it drops it down to 2133. I also cant find anywhere in the BIOS to change the speed.

Try installing each pair side-by-side instead of staggered.  I had the same issue with a new set of RAM when I installed them in the staggered configuration.

I am running two 64 sticks and two 16 sticks that came with the PC for a total of 80GB RAM. Zero issues here. However, I can't find where to adjust the speed as others have stated in this thread. Any advice on that would be appreciated.
