GPU upgrade for Lenovo Legion T5-28IMB05

I have a Lenovo Legion T5-28IMB05, specifically the 90NC001JUS model, with an Intel Core i7-10700 (8C / 16T, 2.9 / 4.8GHz, 16MB), 650 w power supply and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 CD 6GB GDDR6. I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card. I know that putting a Pci-E 4.0 card on this machine isn't exactly optimal, but I can't find any 3.0 options that are affordable and better than what I have. I have these three cards that I'm looking at, and would like to double check that they're actually compatible with my machine/perhaps get some other recommendations.

Cards I'm considering:

AMD Radeon Pro W5700 Graphics Card

ASUS GeForce RTX 3050 Phoenix EVO Graphics Card

Re:GPU upgrade for Lenovo Legion T5-28IMB05

Hi eliziums,

Thank you for your follow-up question!

Upgrading to a higher memory card like the ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Dual V2 OC with 12GB VRAM can indeed be a worthwhile investment, especially if you are looking to future-proof your system and enhance your gaming experience. Here are a few points to consider:

  1. Performance Boost: The RTX 3060 offers a significant performance boost over the RTX 2060 and even the RTX 3050. The additional VRAM (12GB) is particularly beneficial for gaming at higher resolutions and for more demanding games that require more memory.

  2. Future-Proofing: With games and applications becoming more resource-intensive, having a card with more VRAM can help ensure that your system remains capable of handling new releases for a longer period.

  3. Ray Tracing and DLSS: The RTX 3060 supports advanced features like ray tracing and DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), which can greatly enhance visual quality and performance in supported games.

  4. Compatibility: The RTX 3060 is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0, so it will work with your current motherboard. Your 650W power supply should also be sufficient for this card, but it's always a good idea to double-check the specific power requirements.

Given these benefits, if your budget allows, upgrading to the RTX 3060 could be a great choice. It will provide you with better performance and more headroom for future gaming and applications.

For more detailed specifications and compatibility checks, you can refer to the Lenovo Product Specifications Reference (PSREF) and the Accessories and Replacement Parts page.

GPU upgrade for Lenovo Legion T5-28IMB05

Re:GPU upgrade for Lenovo Legion T5-28IMB05

Hi eliziums,

Thank you for reaching out to the Lenovo Community!

Upgrading your GPU can significantly enhance your gaming experience, and I'm here to help you ensure compatibility with your Lenovo Legion T5-28IMB05 (90NC001JUS model). Let's take a look at the cards you're considering:

  1. AMD Radeon Pro W5700 Graphics Card

    • This card is primarily designed for professional workloads rather than gaming. While it should be compatible with your system, it may not provide the best performance for gaming compared to other options.
  2. XFX Radeon RX 6600 SPEEDSTER SWFT 210 CORE Gaming Graphics Card

    • The RX 6600 is a solid choice for gaming and should be compatible with your system. It offers a good balance of performance and power efficiency, making it a suitable upgrade from your current RTX 2060.
  3. ASUS GeForce RTX 3050 Phoenix EVO Graphics Card

    • The RTX 3050 is another good option for gaming. It supports PCIe 4.0 but is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0, so it will work with your current motherboard. This card offers ray tracing capabilities and DLSS support, which can enhance your gaming visuals and performance.

Compatibility Considerations: - Power Supply: Your 650W power supply should be sufficient for any of these cards, but always double-check the specific power requirements of the GPU you choose. - Physical Space: Ensure that the card you select fits within the physical dimensions of your case. The Legion T5-28IMB05 has a spacious interior, but it's always good to verify the card's length and width against your case's available space. - Driver Support: Make sure to download and install the latest drivers for the new GPU from the manufacturer's website to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.

Recommendations: Given your focus on gaming, I would recommend the XFX Radeon RX 6600 or the ASUS GeForce RTX 3050. Both cards offer excellent gaming performance and should be compatible with your system.

For more detailed specifications and compatibility checks, you can refer to the Lenovo Product Specifications Reference (PSREF) and the Accessories and Replacement Parts page.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to reach out!

Best regards,

Re:GPU upgrade for Lenovo Legion T5-28IMB05

Thanks! Do you think it would be worth the extra money to go for a slightly higher memory card, like a 3060? I was looking at the ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Dual V2 OC as well, and thats a card with 12gb VRAM.
