I Have A Legion T730 RTX2080 Super: I'd Like To Add A Second RTX2080 Super To This Computer?

2020-07-10, 0:54 AM

I'd like to add a second RTX2080 Super to this Computer?

I'm putting together a three monitor system and would like to have three 34" monitors each with 3840 X 2160 resolution. For this I will need two 7680 X 4320 capable GPUs. There are two (2) unused slots in the rear of the case, which would be perfect  for a GPU and a vent panel.

I probably will need a second power supply or a higher wattage unit.

Can this be done with the T730's current motherboard?

Please advise me as to what I need to do to accomplish this remodel.

Thanks

Hello: What a problem to have. 😆

Your prebuilt gaming tower has something of a mini ATX systemboard but there are space constraints, i.e. no extra pcie slot. Since you can run anything you want on your machine for some time to come you would do well to fight the upgrade bug, aka gear lust for next several years. Just saying. Maxing out memory, bigger faster SSD or say an external high end soundcard are worth considering though.

Since it seems not to be reasonable to add a 2d GPU to the T730, I'm thinking about using 3 LG 32GK850G-B 32" QHD Gaming Monitor, then in the future I'll probably custom build a a multi GPU computer that will greater me greater resolution.

Hello Mike G,

at least from what I saw in other gaming forums and from the experience of a friend who had a 2x GTX 1080 setup, multiple GPUs lead to more issues than pleasures. Many games haven't been optimized for SLI, have been stuttering even though there was more than enough performance for their requirements or have been even crashing. I would rather advise you to look for a single monitor setup, but a bigger size and wide aspect ratio, like for example the Y44w?

Best regards,

Great comment. Also, Nvidia apparently is killing the multiple GPU option going forward.

Thanks for the info! I have noticed, over the few past months, that there were continuously less and less SLI profiles released with the drivers, but I wouldn't guess that it's leading to SLI profiles being completely scrapped, weird :o) I guess that's it with SLI setups ...

https://www.techspot.com/article/2094-the-rise-and-fall-multi-gpu-graphics-cards/

This article helps flesh out the reasons why these profiles are falling out of favor. Unfortunately I remember 3DFX mentioned early in the article very well. Dating myself a little LOL. Those polygpns are ugly by today standards. But those early games from that era were far more imaginative than the comparitively mind-numbing monotony of FPS of today. Run-and-gun ... ad naseum. One had to use the brain more to figure out tough puzzles for instance. Myst was well received slightly different gem. Nowadays once you figure a problem out, you just keep using that skill til game end. Developers need to expand their minds -- the same innovation that made say a Jedi Knight Dark Forces II  so revelatory, what with its wide open spaces. No more claustrophobic room-to-room-to-corrider. Or how fun Mass Effect was when it burst on the scene, with its superb character development. They could stand to think outside of the box more. Just saying.
