Re: Ideacentre AIO Y910 cooling mod. It's possible, it's done and it's amazing!

Hi, are there any normal cooling fans that could achieve similar results? If not, are there any other liquid cooling systems that could potentially work with the y910 aio? I would like to compact everything into the machine, under the panel. Is this possible?

The issue becomes that even if you could get a better/bigger fan that would fit with the regular panels in place, there simply isn't enough air flow. The Arctic cooling system works because the pump is lower profile than an air cool option and the cooling happens outside the case. It's not the ideal solution but it is the best option I have seen for the system as it is now.

Other AIO coolers might work, it would depend on the pump height and the ability to route the recirculating tubes.

Maybe zerozoneice will have more input.

@TheMuff: yea, i think i do, in a bag somewhere. Together with the EM shield, which i don't use anyway because you'd need to cut it for the AIO pump to fit. So i simply removed it from the board, with the fan attached to it.

@DWood: from what i measured, any aircooled fan (even low profile like a Noctua) would not fit on the board with the back casing on. You would need to cut a rectangular hole in the back plastic casing for the fan to stick out. And still you would have ~2000rpm fan speeds in there under full load, hence noisy.

Best solution (for me at least) was AIO watercooling, due to superior cooling performance / noise ratio compared to any aircooler out there. I wanted it as silent as possible. That's how i came to Arctic, its fans spin constantly at ~850 rpm which is insane for the amount of cooling it does. Other AIOs could probably work as well (check tubing flexibility though) but they were louder and probably overpowered for cooling this i7 anyway.

@Ziyi: yes, as i said above, you could get a low profile Noctua L9i but it will be very hard to make it work, because you'd have to chop the back cover, which has the opening mechanisms (the orange Y) right in the middle. You'd have to destroy that in order to make the hole for the fan. More structural damage to the cover than benefits, imho. Just get an Arctic and velcro the radiator/fan to either Y910 foot stand or one of the back panels.
