Does anyone know when Lenovo will issue a new bios update with the intel 129 microcode that apparently addresses the chip degradation problem ?

Intel microcode update 129

Re:Intel microcode update 129

I'm curious if it has already been included in the Aug 2 BIOS update. MSI already has it and imagine other board manufacturers have it too. It does limit the voltage pretty good, stopping the spikes. Jayztwocents did a video yesterday.

Re:Intel microcode update 129

Very soon I hope.  I have a Legion T7 34IRZ8 with a i9-13900KF that I have limited way down in the meantime.  I disabled all E cores, turned off turbo boost, and set performance to power saver, and I'm crawling along at about 2.29ghz with max temp topping out at 40C.  It is not Lenovo's fault, but it is frustrating to be afraid to even use my high-end PC waiting for this new microcode.  I have never had any crashing or instability, so I hope my CPU isn't half baked.  According to my drive diagnostics my PC has 4,095 power on hours since I bought it Feb of 2023.  I've always left it on high performance, no overclocking, but I like many others, can't help but feel my processor is certainly roasted to some degree.

I check the Driver & Software download page daily for my machine under the manual update section, watching for the new BIOS update.  Sometimes the automatic update in Vantage does not always see new updates that are posted, so I always just check manually.

I do wish Lenovo would start providing actual change logs in the readme when they release new BIOS updates.  Advanced users want to know what has been fixed or updated.

@ Thomas1984

This is exactly why I hate that Lenovo does not provide change logs with the BIOS updates.  No idea what features they may add, remove, or fix in the updates.

Thanks guys. Given the severity of the issue I very much hope that Lenovo does provide some kind of communication soon. I have a T7 14900 just bought that I haven’t taken out of the box yet because of this issue.

I installed the Aug. 2nd BIOS update and if I remember correctly the microcode date shown was from 2023.

Re:Intel microcode update 129

Yea tell me about it.  AI chat bot (which isn't AI) tells me what a BIOS is when i asked about the change log.  Human chat, tells me what a BIOS is.  Human chat #2 tells me to read the readme file and that contains the change log. I read it to her and her hampster falls off the wheel.  She thinks what I read was a change log.  Bless her heart.  The fake AI chat bot was smarter.  So then I leave a 3 star review of my new T5 and poornima responds to ask support.  Cool... already did that.  Support closed the ticket asking me to call support.

I am scared for the company if this is what their brightest people are.

Btw, I am one town over from their corporate HQ in morrisville.  I may stop by and see if any human knows the answer.  The guard at the gate probably knows more about tech than their tech support.

@ aleeling

Can I ask how you changed your settings ? I’ve gone into the uefi settings and there’s very little that can be changed there.

@Sdemetriou73

I believe your BIOS may have different options if you have a different machine.  What is the model you have?

I have a Legion T7 34IRZ8 - Type 90V7002UUS, with BIOS 05UKT3EA released 7/22/24.  I recall when I first got my machine it had just come out and the BIOS was not as full featured as it is now after 4 or 5 BIOS updates or so that I have had to date.  It did not even have XMP which started a small riot with Lenovo at first, but they did get that added for us.

After the colorful first page when entering the BIOS, I go down to More Settings in the bottom right, then under Advanced, CPU Setup, I there should be Active Efficient Cores option to disable, and then Turbo Mode I set that to disable.  I also turned off XMP yesterday just to be safe, which is under Advanced, Memory Setup.   I changed the memory profile from Custom-XMP to Default.  Finally, under the Power section, I set performance to "Quiet Mode", which you can also do from the pretty first screen, or in the Vantage app in windows.

When you exit and apply changes, don't panic when the machine reboots several times on it's own and you may just have a black screen - it has to re-train the memory or something, and it takes a bit.  It is normal for it to turn off and on fairly rapidly a few times, which made me freak out the first time I did my BIOS update.  When I originally changed my memory to XMP, I had just put in Corsair Dominator memory and thought I bricked my BIOS.   It took about 5 minutes of rebooting, and some beep codes on its own before it was done.  I think the more memory you have the longer it takes, I have 4 sticks, 64GB.

Hope some of this helps, assuming you have the same options as I do.  Let us know!
