Y520T-25IKL: Is the GTX 1080 compatible?

2020-10-10, 11:15 AM

I have a Lenovo Legion Y520T - 25ikl. It currently has a 36D9 motherboard, and a GTX 1060 GPU, I want to upgrade my GPU to a GTX 1080 but I'm not sure if its compatible. It has an Intel i5 processor. Will a GTX 1080 work? If not what other faster GPU's will work (preferably Nvidia). Thank you.

It should have no problems being compatible with a GTX1080, The only issue might be the power supply not being a high enough wattage. I would recommend looking into a GTX 1660 or 1660-Ti as it's roughly 30% faster and more power-efficient than a GTX 1080. Look into the Power supply wattage and confirm that it can handle the power requirements of the 1080 and 1660 cards. other than that you could run an RTX 2060 or 2070 in that system If your power supply can handle it. If you install a new GPU and experience issues, don't freak out and think the GPU is broken you probably just need to uninstall the old GPU drivers and install the drivers for the new GPU.
