Legion C530 Crackling Audio

2019-03-25, 15:50 PM

Hi all,

I've just purchased a Legion C530 PC and I'm absolutely loving it but when I plugged some headphones in I noticed a faint crackling sound - happening on all pairs of headphones. I've already rebuilt the PC  & updated all the drivers. I contacted Lenovo, downloaded their driver but that somehow made the crackling even worst. They want me to rebuild my PC again but that shouldn't be the case. Any ideas on what migh be causing this?

Much appreciated.

Likely, there is an issue with the port itself. Maybe you should try a USB to Audio Jack converter to see if the issue persists. If it doesn't persist, then the issue will definitely be the audio port. I'm not sure how it's built, but replacing that port shouldn't be too difficult I'd imagine.

Let me know what happens.

Good shout on the USB > Audio, I'll give that one a try once I've sourced a converter. The PC is covered under warranty so if it does need changing, Lenovo should be able to sort it.

Cheers!

Mine does the same with the front audio jack. The rear one works fine. Not a big deal to me cause I have another output jack Jack on my speakers but it is pretty annoying.

By the way, I recently experienced crackling noise on my headphones too. I found the issue to be the I was placing my phone directly under the wire as it goes into the audio jack. The iphones have a strong magnet usually around the top right, could have been the reason but I'm not an electrical engineer. So check that electronics are away from the wiring. Also, if you built the PC check if there's wiring moving alongside/ontop/under the audio jack wiring.

SOLUTION!!

It took me a while but I realized the crackling sound was as if too much power was being directed to the headphone port. I looked into the issue and it turns out the multi-power pack I was using was no grounded ?‍♂️ as soon as I plugged my PC directly into the wall, the issue was resolved!

I ended up getting the PC replaced because I originally thought it was hardware but none of the Digital River support engineers even suggested this - even after I asked them if it could be power related ?.

Did you figure this out? I don't think it's a power source issue for me. I'm having the intermittent static/"robot"/lag effect through the headphones. I have tried updating, installing, and uninstalling drivers. Brand new c530.

I’m having the same issue. Brand new c530. I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix. I’m considering calling the warranty service that came with the machine but I’m pretty busy during the day and know it’s going to take significant time on the phone.

@ncharn glad to hear I'm not the only one with this issue. Do you remember the original driver configuration? I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers so many times that I don't remember the original set of audio devices/drivers that it shipped with (including updating with the Vanguard setting, the Lenovo bridge, etc.) Once I resolve I'd like to get it back to factory settings (re: drivers).
