Legion T5 tower 28IMB05 freezing

2021-08-27, 3:33 AM

I've seen other forums where this has been mentioned, but not resolved. My Legion T5 tower keeps freezing multiple times throughout the day. Most often when watching online videos or visiting shopping apps/websites. I'm unable to use keyboard or mouse. I have to manually shut down by pressing the power button and then reboot. It will work again for a couple of hours and then freeze up again.

What's causing this?! Has anyone found any real fixes? All drivers are up-to-date.

From everything I've read, it looks like the NVIDIA driver is the problem after Windows updated it automatically.

Since I've rolled back my NVIDIA driver, I've had no freezes whatsoever for the past few days.

Now I'm using old NVIDIA driver version 4.6231.

Try this:

- Go to: desktops and all in ones :: legion series :: legion t5 28imb05 - Lenovo Support US   >>> Drivers & Software  >>> Manual Update tab
- Click on Graphic Processing Units (GPU) and Server AI Accelerators

- Download the NVIDIA Graphic Drivers and use Windows Installation Wizard to uninstall the old driver/reinstall new driver.

I did a factory reset on mine before installing but that may not be necessary.

Hello @Taterz ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I would suggest checking the Event viewer or the third party program whocrashed as recommended by other users.

This would help in isolating where the issue is coming from.

Hope this helps.

The problem is already known. The same question/problem has been asked in this forums at least 10 times. Problem is caused by a conflict between Nvidia GPU drivers and Realtek sound drivers.  I have the same problem, and I have tried all the solutions provided in this forum. I have formatted PC, installed new Windows, updated BIOS, installed official drivers from Lenovo support site, nothing helps. Lenovo should take some responsibility and solve the issue.

augh my T5 JUST Started doing this. I thought it was a usb dongle until I got into the windows event logs. It is the sound driver. I tried re-installing it. It worked for 30 minutes, then I received and email, and got an audible notice for the message. Sound driver hung. System froze. BSOD.

I also updated to the most current windows 10 build. No change in behavior. Realtek is a fairly common driver, so is Nvidia, which makes this more frustrating. Now I am considering returning the pc for a refund.

trying to download clean realtek drivers from https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/pc-audio-codecs-high-definition-audio-codecs-software (very slow download) dialup modems would be faster.....

my t5 has the geforce gtx 1660 super with version 471.55. I am downloading 471.68 - the WHQL certified driver. I will start with nvidia since they downloaded in minutes.

Re:Legion T5 tower 28IMB05 freezing

So this is what I've done so far:

1- I backed up my files to an external hard-drive and did a factory reset of my PC.  (restart then while PC's restarting, continually press "F2" and go thru the steps - DO NOT choose the full wipe/sell my PC option!)

2- When I rebooted my PC, I immediately went to the Start menu and right-clicked on Nvidia GEForce Experience and chose "Uninstall."

3- I then went to Lenovo's support website and entered my PC's serial #:  desktops and all in ones :: legion series :: legion t5 28imb05 - Lenovo Support US

4- On the left side of the page, I clicked on "Drivers & Software."

5- I then chose the "Manual Update" tab under Drivers & Software. Here you can find the drivers for audio and also GPU.

6- I downloaded the drivers (.exe files) for Audio and GPU, double-clicked on the files and used the installation wizard.
The Realtek audio driver will loop and restart the PC about 3 times.

~~~~~~~~
So far, it's been working beautifully for the past day. No more freezes (knock on wood.) Factory reset may not even be needed, just a rollback of drivers.
Today, I've gone to multiple sites, watched YouTube, and played some online games.
I'll follow up on this post in a few days to say if it's continued to work or not.
Cheers!
FYI: with the rollback, I'm now using NVIDIA's driver version 462.31, whereas NVIDIA's most recent driver is 471.68.
You can see what driver you're using by going to the NVIDIA Control Panel in your Start Menu.
When the control panel's open, click on "System Information" in the bottom left-hand corner.
Re:Legion T5 tower 28IMB05 freezing
I have updated the bios and reinstalled the realtek drivers. I also removed the nvidia drivers and installed newest from nvidia. nothing stabilized it. I tried the most recent windows updates.  THe realtek driver disappears from windows - no audio. Still BSOD's at random. If this board/cards and drivers only work on windows 10 1909 - that is a real problem. At some point you can expect your pc to BSOD as you should be updating/patching windows. Not that anyone enjoys updating windows, but oh well. I am starting to look at either removeing the nvidia card and replacing it with an non-nvidia card. BUT that does not explain why the realtek audio just disappears now.  (drivers aside - this is a but disturbing.) I can tell you that the vantage software is about useless. I manually updated the bios as vantage could not see anything to update. The bios software ran without issue at least. I am on O4NKT19A for bios version now. Like I said, it did not help, nor did it hurt. Good luck all.
Im stunned this is a known issue. Ive had my legion desktop for about a month now and its just started completely locking up every day. There is no real fix for this? My error log hasnt mentioned anything about the audio drivers...
