Legion T530-28APR Processor Upgrade

2020-10-20, 7:29 AM

Hi,

I bought a T530-28APR earlier this year and wanted to upgrade the processor from the Ryzen 5 2400G.

I've looked on the support section with my serial number and it shows the Ryzen 7 3700X as being compatible (see attached image for the list I referred to). I've tried installing it (BIOS and drivers up to date from the support section) and I'm getting no power to any peripherals but it works again once I've got my 2400G back in.

I've contacted AMD regarding the issue and they have asked me to check with yourselves that it is compatible with the motherboard. Obviously, I hope it is otherwise the support section of the website is misleading, as I based my processor purchase on the list there.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks.

Hi chabs91,

It should be compatible yes. Are you sure you have the latest BIOS update ? Please double check on the Support Page

Try removing the memory from the sockets, then reseat them.

Try manually flashing the CMOS battery on the motherboard, then re attach the 2400G, update the BIOS.

Enter BIOS and fix any RTC (Real-Time Clock) alarm/errors.

Reseat the 3700X.

If still no power, then my educated guess would be that we are looking at a dead chip.

Regards

Voithos

Hi Voithos,

Thanks. The BIOS showing on the Lenovo Support page (detected by serial number) is O3MKT26A, which is also what my BIOS is showing although my BIOS shows an install date of 24 Aug 2020, whereas the support site only shows this being released on 11 Sep 2020?

Thanks,

Luke
