Legion T7-34IMZ5 Desktop Cooling Question

2021-06-09, 4:31 AM

Does anyone know what these standoffs are for (circled in red) on the power supply casing and under the GPU?  I'm trying to figure out how to get more active air cooling to the NVMe drive mounted under the GPU and was thinking about mounting a fan that would blow on the NVMe drive to reduce its temperature.  I've tried a passive NVMe heatsink with a teflon cooling pad and it only reduces the temperatures by 10 degrees.

Hello @KMiles,

Thanks for reaching out.

I checked the parts page and have found that the circled pins are built into the case.

However there was no indication on what those pins are for even in the hardware maintenance manual.

I'll try to check this internally to see what those pins do.

Regards,

I have a Legion T7-34IMZ5 too (also with those pins).

But I just want to ask you where exactly is located the primary ssd nvme (boot) on the motherboard?

I can see the secondary slot BELOW the GPU, on the right of the bios battery (mine in empty, there is only the shield), and the other one is for the WIFI card.

The Primary NVMe drive is #15 and sits in the area in red.  You don't normally see it as the GPU sits over the top of it and if you remove the GPU, it is covered by a heat sink.  The challenge with it being located here is that the interior case fans don't really blow on this area as air flow is blocked by the GPU.  The GPU generates a lot of heat and causes heat challenges for the NVMe drive.  Lenovo installs it with a passive heat sink and a thermal pad to help reduce the temperature, but it only reduces it by about 10 degrees.

Hey there,

Those screws are to mount a PCIe extension cable to vertically mount your GPU. HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO DO THAT.

Doing so with restrict airflow to your GPU and cause overheating problems

Are those for mounting the second M.2 SSD? Or is the M.2 posts a bit further toward the front?

No the second Nvme is right under the GPU. You have to take it off to get to it

Maybe my machine is different from yours--my second M.2 SSD socket is out in the open, I didn't have to more or change anything to install the second SSD.
