Can you give us a update when you install that memory to see if it works.

Thanks

Re:Legion T7 34IMZ5 latest bios O5FJY08USA update error

Hi there folks

Just to add, I had the same shock and surprise after buying this rig, that the included 16Gb single module of Samsung RAM was rubbish and assumed that any 3200 RAM would work, mistakenly. I bought a set of Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16Gb and even though they defaulted to 2100Mhz they benched quicker than the Samsung RAM! But being a new member of the PC master race ;) I couldn't have the RAM working that slow so I kept looking in my local market, which is Sweden...

I couldn't find the now discontinued HyperX referenced above: https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX432C18FB_16.pdf

But I did find these at a local retailer in Sweden: https://www.komplett.se/product/1149195/datorutrustning/datorkomponenter/minne/hyperx-fury-ddr4-3200mhz-32gb

They seem to be an older unit and the site (sorry it's all in Swedish) seems to suggest that the default JEDEC / SPD is 2933Mhz, which is a decent compromise from what I understand. Weirdly I couldn't find them anywhere else or a Kingston data sheet for them, so it may just be an error from the retailer and they're in fact the newer (and slower JEDEC) modules which would be a bummer. They should be delivered tonight my time so I'll report back, as it might be useful if you're in the Nordics at least or can find them elsewhere...

Crossing fingers we can all find some RAM that's half decent...

Cheers

Edd

Did you test them both in single channel ? 2100MHz CL15 (~15.5ns) should be a bit slower then 3200 CL22 (~14.2ns)

JEDEC 2166MHz CL16 (~12ns) not uncommon like Kingston HX426C16FB4K2/32 in theory that should be the fastest with benchmarks.

If you will notice the difference ? That all depends on how the CPU is being used. If it's often waiting on the memory, faster memory (lower CAS/CL) is better however if it has enough to do that does not involve RAM memory it will not matter that much.

When PCIe v4 is more mainstream memory speed will be even less bottling as data can be transferred from NVMe PCI4 SSD to PCI4 GPU without accessing the RAM. The CPU cycles can be used much more efficient.

Anyhow.. Lenovo should just enable XMP and if they want to be partly in control, only allow the XMP profiles (no manual memory overclocking).

Good point! It wasn't a fair test as the two modules were running in dual channel compared to the single channel Samsung module. I honestly can't remember the CAS they ran at as I took them out and are sending them back, but it would have been quicker than the stock Samsung for sure.

It will be interesting to see if the 4 x 8Gb is actually better than 2 x 16Gb would have been. Haven't read up properly but I saw some reports that it could run quicker. Either way, agree with your point. Seems ridiculous that a mainstream and gaming focussed brand like Legion doesn't support basic XMP profiles for RAM.

It's a huge difference (single vs dual channel) in bandwidth, especially when using 'slow' (high CL/CAS) memory. That will reflect probably in every benchmark in a significant difference in score however the performance gain whilst gaming wil be not that noticeable.

Evening everyone

Some good news to report - the Kingston HyperX memory just turned up - and it works at 3200Mhz out of the box, so better than I thought!

Here's some CPU-Z screens and pictures of the packaging to help identify it. Hopefully you can find it in other regions than the Nordics!

I'm super chuffed - good luck to everyone else!

Cheers

Im just going to run my crucial green sticks 16gig 3200mhz CL22 x2, 32gig total until and if we have a bios update with support for XMP. Im still going to **bleep** on here until we get a suitable BIOS update, after all its what Lenovo calls there gamer PC that we bought and we should be able to have overclockable ram. I littelry bought everything lenovo including there gaming keyboard, mouse and headset package as well as there gaming G34w-10 34 inch WLED ultra wide gaming monitor.

Re:Legion T7 34IMZ5 latest bios O5FJY08USA update error

Hi all,

exactly as @KMiles and @drstancpa are stating in their posts, the BIOS Update package contains two versions O4LKT19A & O5FKT08A of the BIOS for the T7 34IMZ5, which has gotten a CPU refresh mid-gen. The error message gets returned by the installer in case you have the latest BIOS Version already installed. This is common practice and we have done this in the past with our gaming desktops too, when they have received a CPU refresh mid-gen.

@ KMiles wrote:

It appears that a new version of the bios has been posted.  Has anyone tried it yet and does it work?  It indicates the version is:  O4LKT19A & O5FKT08A

Notes About the BIOS Version of the BIOS package.

  1. The BIOS package supports two generation of CPU (CML and RKL) with two kinds of BIOS.
  2. The BIOS package can detect what kind of CPU you installed in the system and BIOS will be updated accordingly, you may check BIOS version in BIOS Setup after BIOS update completed.
  3. The Steps to check BIOS version in BIOS setup.
  • Power On the unit.
  • Press “F1”during BIOS PSOT to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Check the region as marked RED below:

O4LKTxxA → CML SKUs
O5FKTxxA → RKL SKUs

BIOS(Intel Comet Lake(CML) platform): Main→BIOS Revision level
t7-1
BIOS(Intel Rocket lake(RKL) platform): Main→BIOS Revision level

t7-2

Supported Systems

  • Legion T7-34IMZ5 Desktop

Supported Operating Systems

  • Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit)

@ drstancpa wrote:

Made no difference on my end. It looks to me like they' now admitting that this "update" is only for the newest Rocket Lake models (or perhaps this is the first BIOS for the Rocket Lake models) and that our current BIOS from December is still the current one for our Comet Lake ones.

Best regards,
