Legion T7 i9 is way slower than HP Omen i9. How it is possible?

2021-03-05, 12:59 PM

Hi,

I recently purchased Lenovo Legion T7 with i9 10900K CPU. I immediately run Cinebench r23 to see how it performs compared to HP Omen with very same CPU.

compared to HP Omen 15113 points of multi core, Legion got only 8086 multi core points. How can it be?

When running Cinebench r23 Legion T7 temperature stayed below 50C keeping constant 2.9 GHz when HP Omen gone crazy and got 95-100C with 4.9 GHz!

Any idea why it isn’t going full in and get something similar to HP Omen i9 performance when Legion T7 has far superior cooling system?

from Vantage app I have set Performnce mode on without OC.

Thanks all!

Hi,

I have a similar problem with limited performance - it seems in my case the CPU clock does not exceed 4.3GHz. Normally it should go as high as 5.1-5.3GHz with 1-2 cores and 4.8 with multi-core.

Can you check yours with task manager and Vantage?

Hi, Good to see I am not alone with this issue. When system is IDLE, it is around 5 GHz. As soon as I run Cinebench it will drop to sub 3 GHz.

5 GHz seems normal speed, so it does not look like the problem I had. Mine did not exceed 4 in full load.

Try to post info you see under Aida64 - Motherboard - CPUID.

Perhaps in your case it's something related to cooling and CPU throttling. This you could see with Aida64 stress test as well.

Funny thing is when I don’t do anything it is running 5 GHz, but when I do something it will drop to sub 3 GHz.

With full Cinebench load it stays under 50C so it is not heat issue. When I run Cinebench on my HP Omen it will immediately hit 4.8 GHz and 100% load with extreme heat until it will throttle .

Same issue with 10700k had both so I got a direct comparison. HP Omen was FAR to loud so I returned it. Still it feel strange that Lenovo Legion 7i is over all quite a bit slower. Even underclocked the HP Omen was faster.  For me it seems the terminal modes does not actually do anything. I cannot se or hear any difference when switching between the modes. LENOVO Vantage needs a MAJOR upgrade. Also the 3080 card is noisy and seem much worse than the OMEN one, even in that small case. Not 100% happy about my purchase.
