Legion Tower 7i - Add SSD and 4TB & 6TB HDD

2021-07-11, 3:56 AM

I recently purchased a Legion T7-34IMZ5.  It came with a 1TB M2 SSD.  I wanted to add another M2 SSD.  Does anyone know what the compatible specifications / dimensions for such a drive would be?  Also, is there a capacity (i.e., 1TB vs 2TB) limit on compatible drives?

Yes, a 4TB HDD works. So does a 6TB. But not an 8 or higher TB. A 6TB plus a 4TB in the two 3.5" bays also works. I have only one 6TB so I wasn't able to try a pair of 6's.

Hello @Leno12345,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Kindly post your MTM (ex 82B10000FR) so we can find more information about your machine.

Based on the PSREF page the T7 can support up to 4 drives, 2x 3.5" HDD + 2x M.2 SSD
• 3.5" HDD up to 2TB each
• M.2 SSD up to 1TB each

Hope this helps.
Regards,

The capacities shown above by Jack is what Lenovo has tested and certified.  Typically Crucial has tested and sells SSDs that are double that capacity, input your system info into their website.

Hi.  I'm not totally sure what the MTM number is.  I see Legion T7-34IMZ5 Desktop (Lenovo) - Type 90Q8.   I also see MJ0f2CQD.  And model: 009WUS. Were any of those the numbers you were looking for?

Hi there,

The MTM for your machine is 90Q8009WUS :)

I agree with @Jack_Lenovo1 and @BiggAl and also recommend you look at this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Desktops/Upgrading-the-Legion-Tower-7i-Gaming-Desktop/m-p/5083123

Here is the hardware manual, a great resource specifically from pages 60-65 on how to upgrade the storage drives: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/desktop_pub/legion_t7_34imz5_legion_ct7_34imz5_hmm_202007.pdf

Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone for all the advice!  Just to confirm would either of these two SSDs work:

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-NAND-NVMe-PCIe-2400MB/dp/B08GVDNTGJ

https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Blue-SN550-Internal/dp/B08K4NP5DQ/

Thanks!

Yep, they're both fine: M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSDs.

Any regular NVMW M.2 SSD works, but on my system there was a spacer screw but not top screw to actually screw the SSD in. (Cheap to order online though.)
