Legion c530 cpu upgrade help

2020-10-25, 0:31 AM

My current specs are core i5 8400 with a RTX 2060 on a stock 450w psu. I bought a core i7 9700f and swapped it in and upon booting up as soon a windows load after login the whole system just freeze within a few seconds. Any advice into what I should look into? I tired loading bios optimal settings as well as reset the bios. When I checked the system in bios it sees the processor and recognized it.  But when I put back the 8400 everything just works fine and boots with no problems.

Hi,

Zero experience here with Legion desktops but have you read the notes on the BIOS page?

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/legion-series/legion-c530-19icb/downloads/ds503832-bios-for-windows-10-64-bit-legion-t530-28icb-legion-c530-19icb-legion-t5-28icb05-desktop

"The BIOS package supports two generation of Chipset (with Onboard VGA and without Onboard VGA) with two kinds of BIOS."

I have no idea if this explains the problem but it is suspicious.  The 9700f CPU doesn't have onboard VGA, while your original does - unless it's also an "f".

Z.

You are correct my bios is among that is not supported for the without onboard vga, which I should have research more before buying the 9700f. Thanks and now im debating if I should get the one with onboard vga to see if it works..

No, I cant have windows load fast enough to reboot it into safe mode. Also, last week when I tried safe mode with something else Windows wont even let me log in. I already returned the 9700f so I going to purchase the 9700 regular version and see if that works.

**Update** So I return the 9700f and got the 9700 regular version instead and it was still causing the same problems as before. I already update my bios to the latest one and tried numerous attempts to system repair and it still won't work. So im stuck back to using the 8400 that originally came with my c530. If anyone has any other suggestions let me know, otherwise im just going to look for a motherboard that fits the case in the near future.

It's going to be hard to find a motherboard that works well with Lenovo's prebuilds...I've had that issue before and ended up building a whole new pc...

You'd be better off getting a new case and motherboard and moving all the other components.

I had the same problem too. I now have 9400f, I bought 9700k and my system did not boot like yours, exactly as I changed to 9700 without k and there were the same problems! The conclusion or the 360b lenovo board in the c530 does not support processors higher than 9400, or the problem is something else! Recently a new BIOS came out but I have not tried it on it! So I bet back the 9700 and bet 9400f!

Yea I even tried updating to the latest bios and our board does not support it. Im already looking into a new motherboard and case. Too bad since I really like the case and only had it for like a year and a half.
