Hi Eme10,

since you haven't provided a sample of the noise that you hear, could you have a look around the internet for the symptom "coil whine" and try to compare, whether that is the sound that you hear? Coil whine is an electrostatic noise that is usually produced by the GPU or PSU.

Best regards,

Hi Juraj,

Thanks for your reply.

I was actually searching for quite a while on the internet before going to actively asking in forums, and the sound is definitely not a coil whine, it is a very loud noise.

couldn't attach a file so below is a link to the short video file with the loud noise coming from the cube.

Is this something that should be taken care of as part of the warranty? this is a new desktop pc and was noisy since we got it.

Hope you can help me with solving this annoying issue.

Thank you!

My money is on the Intel stock CPU cooler that usually comes with these prebuilt systems.

Seeing as the 9700k is quite the powerful CPU, this seems very likely.

More things to look at:

PSU

faulty fan

GPU

Thanks for the video! That's definitely not coil-whine. Even though it is always difficult to judge from far away just based on a video, the sound that the machine is making doesn't sound healthy. I wouldn't advise trying to fix the system on your own and it would be best to get in touch with our service as soon as possible to have the machine checked. If possible, please let us know how it all went.

Hi Juraj,

I thought that too, it really sounds bad. I wouldn't know how to fix that just needed to get the confirmation that it needs some professional service. The thing is that I was contacting the local service for this issue and they were advising me to re-format before they can send someone to check it at my home.

Is that inevitable? it feels like the issue involves hardware rather than software.
Appreciate your support.
Anyway, I will contact them again to push for a solution.

Thank you!

Not sure if installing clean Windows would have an effect, but what would, is definitely trying to update all the drivers including BIOS. Other than that, I agree that it is more of a HW issue.

Re:Lenovo C730 loud noise

Hi Juraj,

I came back to update.

So the Windows reset didn't help and a technician arrived and replaced one of the front fans and the GPU, but it didn't help either.
So I called the local Lenovo service again and they said they would send another technician to my house to replace all other fans and thermal paste on CPU, but then I suggested them, as you said, to check the BIOS.
It appeared there is a newer version for C730, so I upgraded to the latest, with their help, and the outcome was that the fans were no longer so loud!!!
It's not that the machine is now completely silent when running the Overwatch game, but it seems that there is better management now for the fans' work. Now when my kid is entering the game, you can hear the fans are working a bit harder, but it is just a reasonable sound.

Thank you for the attention and assistance you've provided, it has helped me a lot!

I'm glad that the BIOS Update helped! ;) When a game starts, its completely normal that the fans spin up a bit more, since the machine is put under load. As long as there is no irregular or rattling sound, the fans should be ok and the machine should perform as expected. I hope that the machine is going to serve you and your kid well!
