Poor Performance on Y700 with GTX 1070

2016-12-29, 14:59 PM

Hi I got my new Lenovo Y700 Tower (Y700-34ISH Desktop (ideacentre) - Type 90DF0097UK)

from Currys yesterday with a GTX 1070 8GB graphics card in it.

I installed Gears of War 4 and ran the benchmark and was severely disapointed with the result.

I only got 59.7 fps on Ultra set at 1920x1080.

On an identically speced ASUS G11CD Tower (exactly the same CPU and amount of ram) running a GTX 970 4GB i got a minmum frame rate of 64.5 fps and a maximum average of over 72 fps.

Why is this Lenovo so slow, and how on earth can a GTX 970 4GB outperform a GTX 1070 8GB?

I am seriously regretting my purchase at the moment, and am very unhappy about the getting stuck with badly performing Tower on credit :(

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I don't have this configuration but I'm curious to know which benchmark tools are you using.

I guess that you are already on the latest level of NVidia drivers too.

Hi the Benchmark I used was the one Gears of War 4 comes with.

Basically to explain I originally bought an ASUS G11CD Tower which went wrong after 6 weeks, the GTX 970 4GB graphics card failed, and ASUS failed to even find the fault lol!

So I got the Lenovo as a replacement from Currys (once they looked at it).

Both Towers have the same CPU and amount of Ram the only difference being the graphics card, with the Lenovo having a GTX 1070 8GB.

So I was supprised that the ASUS Tower bench-tested faster.

I have since remembered that Gears of War 4 was running on a Solid State Drive on the ASUS I put one in there temporarily, I know this greatly affects the load times, but I didn't think it would affect the benchmark frame rates so much?

PS both setups where / are using the latest NVidia drivers.
