Power supply for lenovo Legion T730 (RTX2080 + i9 9900K)

2019-01-30, 18:03 PM

I just bought the  T730 but realized that it only comes with 500W power supply. I'm not an expert on this but I feel it is not sufficient to power both RTX2080 and i9, but I also feel Lenovo should not make a mistake like this. Do I need to get a more capable power supply? How many watts do I need? Also if I swap the PSU, will my warranty be void? Thanks!

Hello,

No idea if it voids the warranty, but otherwise you're absolutely right. Investing in a sufficient power supply is a must, i would suggest anything above 650w.

Surely, if you would like to upgrade some hardware in the future, the bigger the power supply the better space you have for future upgrades.

Good luck

i also have the same question.. I'm about to upgrade from 500W to 650W+ PSU since my LEnovo T730 with the same specs is suffering a Power Throttling. is there an issue if i upgrade to 650W. Will the MObo able to handle higher PSU.

I don't think it voids the warranty, but the warranty is only on original parts; it likely wouldn't be good if your new PSU fried your GPU as Lenovo would not replace it. That's the risk you would take though and I would say you are less likely to do that by getting a decent PSU from a known supplier and at least an efficiency rating of Gold.

Also, in regards to "frying the motherboard", that's not exactly how it works. The power that is drawn from the PSU at 650W isn't always 650W, it just depends on what your individual components are drawing. So, your CPU only takes what it needs, your GPU etc.

This pc should be recalled. I bought it and you are absolutely correct--the PSU is underpowered. Nvidia site suggests 650W min to run this graphics card. I'm experiencing boot issues and kernel-power 41 (63) issues on a brand new computer.....

I think the PSU causes random crashes and black screen. At first i suspect that my Gpu(rtx 2080) is faulty. Repasted my Gpu and it is still overheating reaching 90°c before crashing and black screen.. and i noticed that the fan spinning at only 88% even though i set it to spin 100% when reaching 85°c. It only happen when i connect my peripherals like racing wheel and th8a shifter, vr headshet and my 2 hdd drive... so im concluding that the concept of t730 is garbage.. why put a PSu that is too weak...

We have exact same problem. This is a product spec issue that must be fixed by Lenovo. Why do you ship a box with below spec power supply? And why do we need to fix this ourselves? Expecting someone from Lenovo to take the responsibility for this ASAP. If not, we are done with Lenovo.
