T730 Fan issues

2020-12-30, 3:34 AM

So i’ve had this T730 for a while now and I recently noticed that there was an empty space for an fan on the front of the case. did a little research and found out what fan would fit and where to plug it in (the 4 pin connector on the motherboard). Went ahead and purchased a Noctua 4-pin fan and installed it. My issue is that the fan won’t run right, it just starts and stops constantly.

I’ve already discovered there aren’t any fan settings in the BIOS so what am I missing here? Maybe the wrong type of fan? I’m new to this stuff so my knowledge is limited.

Here’s the fan I purchased for reference.

I have used that same Noctura fan myself and have had no issues what so ever with the fan shutting off, so my guess is that the front fan header on the motherboard that you have it plugged into is a PWM  (Pulse-width modulation) connector that is controlling the fan speed based on temperature.     If desired, they do make adapters that can tap either a 4 pin Molex (the old PC power connectors) or a SATA Power connector to provide 12V to power case fans so they will run at a constant speed.

See page 22 of the Legion T530/T730 Hardware Maintenance Manual linked below for details on the motherboard connectors.

T730 Fan issues

2021-01-04, 13:13 PM
I had the same issue with the Redux fans but on the C730. I gave up on them as those run slower and are just not compatible with the Legion PCs ESPECIALLY without any sort of fan control. On my T730 though, I ended up going with Noctua's industrial 2000 ram fans. Those work perfectly.
