Tower 7i Internal Storage & Cooling Questions

2021-01-13, 18:24 PM

Hi - brand new to this forum.  I just received a new Legion Tower 7i and have some questions.  Overall it looks like it is really well built with high quality components. This is my first Lenovo PC.  I've had both Dell XPS and Alienware PCs in the past.

In the specifications section it shows the following: Storage Support - Up to 4 drives, 2x 3.5" HDD + 2x M.2 SSD • 3.5" HDD up to 2TB each • M.2 SSD up to 1TB each.  Looking inside, I see the 2 NVME slots on the system board and there are two slots for 3.5" drives (brackets included).  Mine came with a 1 TB NVMe drive and a 1 TB 3.5" HDD.

My questions are:

1)  I wanted to move a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB drive from my old PC to the free slot in this one.  Will it even work?  Do I have to format it as a 1 TB drive?  Why is it limited to 1 TB for the NVMe slots and will it allow larger drives in the future via a bios update?

2)  If I want to install 2 ea 2.5" SSD drives, how do I purchase the brackets to install them?  I don't see them included in the case.

3)  The one I bought didn't have the 200 Watt Liquid CPU Cooler.  Does Lenovo sell that as an add-on and if so, what is the part number and cost?  If not any recommendations on another liquid CPU cooler that works well with this PC?

Thank you!

Kerry

Hello @KMiles,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you mind posting your MTM so I can look up more information on the machine for you?

It seems I am having trouble looking up the machine in the support website.

I'll wait for you to respond.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jack_Lenovo1

If I may assist...

Looking at the Sales site for "Legion Tower 7i": https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops-and-all-in-ones/legion-desktops/legion-t-series-towers/Lenovo-Legion-T7-34IMZ5/p/99LE9700365, the machine type number looks to be "90Q8".

Searching the Support site for "90Q8" comes up with "Legion T7-34IMZ5 Desktop": https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/legion-series/legion-t7-34imz5/90q8

HTH a bit.

Regards.

Thanks - I think the MTM is 90Q8002KUS - is that what you need? The product family is listed as Lenovo Legion T7 34IMZ5. I was having the same problem trying to find it on the support site. It is brand new, so they may just be getting it all up and going.

Thank you Nate - I found the part number for the Liquid CPU Cooler using your link - great help on question #3. I think that one is now answered.

You're welcome.
If you haven't already done so, entering your serial number at that model link may make more machine-specific info available to you.

Edit to add: I pulled up your MTM's support page and switched to the Parts tab on the left sidebar. The data table defaults to parts specific for the MTM. On pages 3 and 5 of the listing, I saw two items (one on each page) that look like they could be the HDD bracket you seek. Sorry about question #1... don't have much advice for you. It's been a long while since I had a desktop/tower PC.

Regards.
