Upgrade RAM on Lenovo T730 !HELP!

2020-02-06, 20:10 PM

Hi!

I just bought 16gb Corsair DDR4 3200MHz RAM for my Lenovo Legion T730.

I just now realised that there is no option to change the speed for RAM in BIOS. Is there any way to get around this and enable XMP so I can get the RAM to run at it's fully intended speed. As of right now it's locked to 1066MHz acording to Speccy.

However it does say in Task manager that it's running around 2300MHz. While my orignal RAM runs @1300MHz in Speccy and in 2666MHz in Task manager.

Am I doomed to keep the same RAM forever in this machine because of some bull**bleep** design to not allow access to change the MHz in BIOS? Or is there a work-around?

If anyone has any idea how to help me, I would appreciate it very much!

Thanks!

Greetings Msamnell from Sweden and welcome to the Lenovo community forum,

Lenovo is not providing XMP support because exceeding the Intel CPU memory controller specification when using XMP or in general overclocking will void Intel's warranties because it causes more wear on the processors and can lead to failure.

To achieve the CPU's max RAM speeds higher than DDR4's initial base of 2133MHz you need to look at the manufacture's specifications of the RAM to see what the SPD (Serial Presence Detection) is as that is the default boot speed. Currently 2666MHz is Intel's highest CPU memory controller frequency.

This helped me too

Thank you for the answer (and the welcoming post!) EyeDeeNo! This is what I feared.

I thinks this is a really frustrating feature, or lack thereof...Whats the point of buying a tower PC if I can't upgrade it down the road?

Guess I should have built my own from scratch...Sigh

Have you tried using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility? You should be able to set a custom memory profile in there... It will void the warranty though.
