Y700-34ISH Model: 90DF0097UK Ram upgrade and Compatibility

2019-11-16, 1:50 AM

Hi I have spent days looking for answers as to what my Motherboard in this Y700-34ISH Model: 90DF0097UK can handle, in regards to RAM and potentially other upgrades.

I want to either put in 2 x 8 GB, or 2 x 16 GB DDR4 Modules and have the board run in dual channel mode (for gaming performance).

The problem is I don't know how much RAM this board can take or in what configuration?

Also since the RAM in this board is old now, the newer RAM is faster, and I want to make sure I get something compatible.

I know this motherboard is an Intel Skylake (Rev 07) with a Intel H170 (Rev 31) Southbridge.

My current RAM reports as:
Modules Installed: Slot "BANK 3" (slot 4) has 8 GB installed
Type: DDR4 SDRAM
Channel: Single
Module Width: 64 Bit
Size: 8 GBytes
Memory Speed: PC4-17000 DDR4-2133 (1066 MHz)
Module Voltage: 1.2V
Dram Manufacturer: SK hynix
Serial Number: 27A9F33C
Part number: HMA41GU6AFR8N-TF

CAS Latency (CL): 15.0 Clocks
RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 15 Clocks
RAS Precharge (tRP): 15 Clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS): 36 Clocks
Row Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC): 278 Clocks
Command Rate (CR): 2T

Hi Garyrt1,

Welcome to the Community Forums!

The machine can handle up to 32 GB 2133MHz DDR4 RAM as confirmed by PSREF.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Thank you for that PDF link that helped alot.

Do you know (or anyone reading this) if I can put my motherbaord in dual channel mode, and if I can, can I do it using all four slots or just two?

Hi Garyrt1!

Another hand here to help. Upon checking the processor information of your computer here https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/88185/intel-core-i5-6400-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-30-ghz.html, it only has two Max Memory Channels meaning you can only work with two slots.

As for the dual channel mode, it is already set to dual channel. You can double check it using a trusted third party program called CPU-Z and check under "Memory" tab.

Regards,

Hi thanks for your reply.

My ram is set to single channel as Lenovo supplied only one 8 Gigabyte UDIMM in my Desktop.

It's good to know it's not worth putting in 32 GB.

Not long after getting this Desktop I started noticing performance issues. Lenovo put a super slow cheapo HDD in (I replaced the HDD with an SSD a while ago), and only 1 memory module, which equalled painfully slow game loads, and in game game lag due to them both causeing a performance bottleneck, effectively slowing down the GTX 1070.

So dual channel mode is even more important then the amount of ram to me, to stop games for stuttering (lagging badly) perodically due to low minimum frame rates. I have seen this on the last Battlefield game, and also on the notorious Red Dead Redemption 2 (though part of the issues with RDR2 is a known issue).

That is correct. It is best to have the same RAM models for you to maximize the capabilities of the computer in playing games. You may also find more information from these threads about RAM upgrades.

Hope this answers your query.

Re: Y700-34ISH Model: 90DF0097UK Ram upgrade and Compatibility

2019-12-06, 10:16 AM

Hi I just wanted to say thank you for the help and advice I received on this matter. It both helped me to make the right choice, and made me feel much more confident in my decision. I am posting this reply also to let anyone who searches this site know what I did in the end.

I purchased:

G.SKILL NS Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 Platform Memory Kit Model F4-2133C15D-16GNS (from Newegg).

Even though these RAM modules don't look exactly like my existing RAM, the specs in CPU-Z are identical, even showing the DRAM for both was manufactured by SK Hynix.

So it seems this G.Skill RAM is a branded version of the generic RAM that came with this desktop.

This helped me too

Hi, im having the exact same problem, just bought a sealed y700-34ish two days ago and it is impossible to play. Gpu and CPU are both below 50% of usage, and im wondering if its maybe because of the 8 gb of ram. Since you already bought the ram, did it work for you?
