82GN001LUK Legion 5 17" AMD - RAM and SSD question

2021-06-11, 12:18 PM

So many unresolved answers for this but hopefully here, someone will know.

Is it possible to increase the RAM? Some models I've seen on the net seem to have the standard RAM slots and others don't. I'd prefer more RAM if possible (Y700 has 32Gb) but has failed in other areas!)

Also can I add a 2nd hard drive? Says on Lenovo page you can, chat help says you can't. Which is it?

Thanks in advance

Re:82GN001LUK Legion 5 17" AMD - RAM and SSD question

Hi devilfrog,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

According to the Psref. Documentation for your Legion 5 17" AMD (MTM:  82GN001LUK) it has the following support for:

Storage:

  • Up to two drives, 1x 2.5" HDD + 1x M.2 2242/2280 SSD
  • 2.5" HDD up to 1TB
  • M.2 2242 SSD up to 512GB
  • M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB

Memory:

  •  2x 8GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200
  • Memory Slots: Two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, dual-channel capable
  • Max Memory: Up to 16GB DDR4-3200 offering.

The max offering is what the device has been tested working with, with the DDR4-3200 offering at the time, so it most likely supports higher.

Hope this helps

Regards

Voithos

Re:82GN001LUK Legion 5 17" AMD - RAM and SSD question

According to PSREF Legion Lenovo Legion 5 15ARH05H this model supports up to 16GB (2x 8GB) of DDR4-3200 RAM.

As for storage support, it seems there are two configurations, either one 2.5" drive (HDD or SSD) and an M.2 SSD or two M.2 SSDs:

Storage Support

    • HDD/SSD mode: up to two drives, 1x 2.5" HDD + 1x M.2 2242/2280 SSD • 2.5" HDD up to 2TB • M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB • M.2 2242 SSD up to 512GB
    • Dual SSD mode: up to two drives, 2x M.2 2280 SSD or 2x M.2 2242 SSD • M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB • M.2 2242 SSD up to 512GB

According to Lenovo Legion 5 17ARH05H 82GN001LUK (note, not from an official Lenovo site) your model is the first configuration. You can verify this by opening up the unit and looking. Or if your current drive is an HDD then clearly it's the first configuration.

You cannot have two HDDs in any case.
