Adding a SSD M.2. to Y520

2018-11-22, 23:41 PM

Hi, I own the 1 TB hard drive version of the Lenovo Y520 and I am trying to install a m.2 ssd to the extra slot. I have installed the m.2 ssd inside the laptop but the bios and windows is not able to detect the ssd in the disk management. When I have attached external hard drives or usb drives, the bios also does not detect any of those. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks for the help.

Please note that Y520 works only with nvme SSDs. It will not work with SATA SSD's even if they are in m.2 form factor.
Can you tell us what is the exact model of the SSD you purchased?

Oh yeah my ssd was a sata not an nvme. But do you know how i could fix the problem that I have with booting from external hard drives or usb. When I have them plugged in, the bios can’t detect them.

You need to disable secure boot and usually enable legacy boot as well
