Hi,

Do you have the full MTM of your machine? Ex. 81Y80003KR.

Then we can more easily find the necessary information.

Kind regards, August

Hello,

I'm looking to do the same for my Lenovo Legion 5 as well which I got recently.

Will the Kingston KC2500 1TB work on top of the 500gb that comes pre-installed with the laptop?

Plus, will my laptop support SATA SSDs or is it only for NVMEs?

My full MTM is 82JU00HNMJ

Thanks!

Hi,

For MTM: 82JU00HNMJ

It seems like that SSD would not work unfortunately.

The specs list support for 1 2280 M.2 and 1 2242 M.2.

As there is already a 2280 M.2 installed that only leaves a 2242 slot.

And it is only NVMe.

https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Legion/Lenovo_Legion_5_15ACH6H?M=82JU00HNMJ

Storage
512GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0x4 NVMe
Storage Support
Up to two drives, 2x M.2 SSD
• M.2 2242 SSD up to 512GB
• M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB

Kind regards, August

Thanks for the reply. NGL that really sucks to hear. So if I wanna max out my storage, my only option is to get 512GB for my 2242 slot and replace my current 2280 with a 1TB version?

Hi,

That is just the maximum configuration that has been tested by Lenovo.

Third party retailers might have tested the device working with larger storage configurations.

You can for example check out what Crucial has to say about it here:

Hey man, really appreciate the replies.

For the 2242 slot, would this be compatible?

Transcend TS512GMTS430S - https://www.lazada.com.my/products/transcend-ssd-mts430s-sata3-m2-tlc-w-dram-ts128gmts430s-ts256gmts430s-ts512gmts430s-i385354387-s1194766479.html?

Doesn't say NVME and it says SATA3 but in the pic below it says compliant with type 2242 and 2280 form factors so not sure if it'll work.

Or am I stuck with something like this instead?

TRANSCEND MTE452T2 - https://www.transcend-info.com/Embedded/Products/No-1164

Hi,

NVMe and SATA are two different standards that don't always play nicely with each other.

I would definitely go for NVMe.

The second one should work from what I can see. but I don't have any experience with their product line.

I know you're the support_specialist here and not treading on your toes here but the spec sheet you linked is not saying only one 2280 and one 2242 - its saying two m.2 drives can be used and then showing the two different m.2 tested by lenovo not so much one nor the other.... however if you put in a 2280 its been tested by lenovo for up to 1tb and if you put in a 2242 its been tested up to 512gb (because that its the limit on these size m.2s)

If you look at the spec sheet for my laptop https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Legion/Lenovo_Legion_5_Pro_16ACH6H?M=82JQ000KUK it says the same

Storage
1TB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0x4 NVMe
Storage Support
Up to two drives, 2x M.2 SSD • M.2 2242 SSD up to 512GB • M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB

However I certainly have two full size 2280 in this.

OP - can you not open up the laptop and just see what size NVMe's will fit in there?

I think some of those models came with the 2242 m.2 on the right hand side (i do strongly believe this can fit a full size 2280) and then had a 2.5inch HDD on the left (this covered up another full size 2280 m.2 slot) and then some models forgo with the HDD and instead come with a full size 2280 on the right handside instead.
