Are these temps fairly normal?

Recently bought a legion Y740 with a gtx 2060. Out of the box it was pretty hot, CPU avg temps in low 80s and peaked over 95 deg C, and that was overwatch just at medium graphics.

I have undervolted it by -125 and tried it with/without turboboost. Are the temps below normal? Specifically the peaks over 90 deg C. I'd prefer to have turboboost on as I notice fps drops when it's off.

First one is undervolted -125

Second pic is undervolted -125 and Turboboost disabled.

Both have speedshift checked and set at 128.

Re: Are these temps fairly normal?

Yes it is normal because this cpu is pretty hot. Try undervolt more the worst thing you can face is BSOD.

My throttlestop settings -165 cache and core

Intel gpu -150 speedshift when gaming 1(extreme cooling on) and 128 when browsing.

Re: Are these temps fairly normal?

How do I enable extreme cooling? Is there already a program on my laptop to enable it?

Try fn + q or ctrl+shift+1. I'm using https://support.lenovo.com/lt/en/downloads/ds502896 from y520. I don't like lenovo vantage Smiley Very Happy

Re: Are these temps fairly normal?

When extreme cooling is on, are the fans going full blast? Or is there any other indication? FN Q seems to turn the fans on full, if thats it?

Yes fn + Q just makes fans go max speed(more cooling less temperatures on cpu/gpu). I'm gaming with headset on so I don't care about sound fans make.

Re: Are these temps fairly normal?

I'm tempted to talk to Lenovo before my 30 day return policy is up. Seems like my laptop overall has higher temps. Read two reviews online that have the CPU temps max out in the mid 80s, and average low 70s when under full load/stress testing, and idle around 40 deg C. And this is with no undervolting.
Mine without undervolting has maxed out at 99 deg C, averages mid 80s, and idles around 50 deg C (avg), so almost 10 deg difference.

There's people around me when using this laptop, so I can't really have the fans going full blast the whole time.

Re: Are these temps fairly normal?

It might be best to get the laptop looked at/replaced if you think yours is heating more than it should. Are you somewhere with A/C?

Also, if the temperatures are for when you're gaming, then they're to be expected like that and fairly good (the temps WITHOUT turboboost anyway).

While maxing out at 90+ degrees, the average temperature is fairly good. You can always try to undervolt more.

Re: Are these temps fairly normal?

Ambient temp of the room is about 22 deg C.

The temps I noted above for myself are after playing about 30min of overwatch (medium settings).

I am currently undervolted at -125, going to try -140 and then -165 and see how that goes.

I just find it odd other users are getting lower temps than I am, and they are running stock (no undervolting).

I do agree, temps without Turboboost look fairly consistent and no odd spikes. Will see what Lenovo says.

Re: Are these temps fairly normal?

Any update on this? I just got my Y740 and also am having trouble achieving the ‘80 C Max’ WITHOUT undervolting that a lot of the reviews out there seem to be suggesting - I’m getting peaks above 90 with prime95 and games WITH a -0.125 undervolt on the CPU and cache.  Wondering if you ever talked to Lenovo about what exactly the normal range we should expect is.
