Battery Charges when turned off but, goes off and on when turned on

I love this laptop so much but I am having 2 major issues.  1) the battery will not stay charging when plugged in and running.  As soon as i power it down it charges with out a problem so I can only use the l laptop for about 3 hours at a time.  i know its a setting and not the charger issue because i bought a brand new lenovo charger specifically for my legion 5.  My other issue is there is only 2 usb slots in this computer and I need to use 1 for my wifi adapter because for some reason I dont have a wifi driver with out it.  Does anyone else have these problems.  they say i can download the new bios update but guess what! your computers has to be charging to run the update!!! ughhh some one help me!!

Re:Battery Charges when turned off but, goes off and on when turned on

Hi dfsflick,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Lenovo Legion 5 (is this for the Legion Slim 5 16APH8?).

Let's try to address them one by one.

1) The charging issue could be related to the power management settings. You can try adjusting these settings through the Lenovo Vantage app. Set the Power Management Settings to Maximum performance while plugged in.

2) Regarding the USB slots, you might want to consider using a USB hub if you need more ports. This will allow you to connect multiple devices at once.

3) For the WiFi driver issue, Check for any drivers that are showing a sign of error in your Device Manager, uninstall all these drivers with yellow bang/ error, restart your computer then download the latest drivers from the Lenovo Support website.

4) As for the BIOS update, you're correct that the laptop needs to be plugged in and charged. If adjusting the power management settings doesn't resolve the charging issue.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

Best regards,

Jhay02_Lenovo

Re:Battery Charges when turned off but, goes off and on when turned on

Hi guys. I have the same issue!

But Lenovo Thinkpad x1 carbon (6th gen)

i just freshly replaced a battery, i was able to use it for a couple of hours. Suddenly it shut off, and turning it back on, the 0918 errorcode appears.

furthermore the same syptoms as in the original post! (Charger light on when off, flipping on and off as well as prompting battery saver nonstop when on)

what didnt work so far!

1. i then turned it off again (holding the power button 15 secs) and resetted with the little hole on the back.

2. same above but i also uninstalled the api battery, checked for updates, turned off laptop and took battery out and back in again. Restarted.

the battery charged a bit but only to like 10%. Please help 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Re:Battery Charges when turned off but, goes off and on when turned on

Welcome to the Community, guest29811!

The 0918 error code usually indicates a problem with the battery or the power management system. Since you've already tried resetting the system and uninstalling the API battery, I would suggest trying to update the BIOS and power management drivers. You can find the latest updates on the Lenovo Support website.

You can also try resetting the power settings. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Restore plan defaults.

If the problem persists, it might be a hardware issue. In this case, I would recommend contacting technical team or visiting a local authorized service center. You can find the nearest one using our Service Provider Locator.
