Black fabric visible on both sides of screen hinge Lenovo Y700-15ISK

2017-03-11, 8:37 AM

Hey guys,

while maintenance, I realised that black fabric is visible on both sides of the screen hinge. It does not look very nice and I am afraid it might be a problem that occured just recently. Is it supposed to look like that or should I contact my retail?

On my laptop, on that side, the cable is behind the hinge, so i see the hinge metal. On the right side i see the cables and not the hinge. If you are not having any problems, like extra friction while closing the lid due to the cabling i suggest to not attempt to move them at all.

Hello Gabrial1992

Thank you for using the Lenovo forum

Looking at these images the hinge is not meant to have that there, it is meant to be enclosed in to the hinge of the unit and display. Dose this cause any extra friction when opening and closing the lid of the unit? You can try contacting the retailer or you can see if you can get an assessment of the unit from a lenovo repair centre.

If these steps do not work or you would like more info on this issue you can call your local Lenovo support line. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on

Actually this "fabric" is the enclosure of cables and its aboslutely normal. There is one on each side of the hinges, its the cables that connect to your display, microphone and camera. Please do *not* try to pinch them or damage them in any way. On my laptop, one is in front of the metal hinge and the other behind the metal hinge. What was your recent problem ?

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately it contradicts what was later stated by

And as to the recent "problem". The problem is the black fabric tape itself, it is visually unpleasing and I was expecting the cables to be somehow enclosed inside the the visible metal parts of the hinge.

Here is the picture of the left side of the hinge. The cable and even the yellow cord (under the black tape) is clearly visible. I was not able to find any detailed plans of Lenovo Y700 construction to verify the position of the bundle.

Thank you then, it really does not cause any additional friction. This must be the only thing I do not like on my laptop. They could make it more hidden or use more plastic or rubber material of tape.
