Black screen after waking from hibernate, sleep doesn't sleep

Hi, I have a couple of issues here.

The sleep option is not properly sleeping my Legion Slim 5 16APH8, as desktop notifications or simply brushing against my mouse will cause it to wake. It also seems to just wake randomly as well. To work around this, I've enabled the hibernate mode, to which now I have a black screen whenever I try to wake it. The keyboard backlight as well as my peripherals will turn on, however there doesn't seem to be anything happening otherwise. My secondary monitor does not receive any output either.

I've only had this laptop for just under 2 months.

Please advise.

Re:Black screen after waking from hibernate, sleep doesn't sleep

Hi pqiu,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Legion Slim 5 16APH8.

For the sleep issue, it might be due to the power settings. You can try to adjust the power settings to prevent the mouse or notifications from waking up your laptop. Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Click on Hardware and Sound.
  3. Click on Power Options.
  4. Click on the Change plan settings link of the current power plan that you're using.
  5. Click on the Change advanced power settings link.
  6. Expand the Sleep tree.
  7. Expand the Allow wake timers tree.
  8. Choose Disable for both On battery and Plugged in.

For the black screen issue after hibernation, it could be a driver issue. You can try updating your graphics driver and BIOS. You can use the Lenovo Vantage app to update your drivers and BIOS. Here's the link to download the app if you haven't installed it yet: Lenovo Vantage

Keeping drivers updated will help make sure the machine runs as smoothly as possible.

If the issue persists, I would recommend contacting our technical support for further assistance. You can submit a service request here: Submit a service request

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Jack_Lenovo1

Re:Black screen after waking from hibernate, sleep doesn't sleep

Had the same issue with my brand new Legion Slim 5 16APH8.  Seems like a common issue across the entire Legion line from the various forum posts here and on Reddit etc.

Anyways you have a couple options.  Switch to dGPU mode outright or if your are like me and want to stay in Hybrid mode, doing the following should fix your issue as it did for me.

Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options ->  Change what the power buttons do

Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"

Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)"

Save and restart.

You should now be able to use Hybrid mode and have your screen turn on coming out of the Shutdown state.  Hope it works for you
