BlackScreen Legion Y540-17IRH laptop

2021-09-10, 15:19 PM

After a year of owning this laptop my screen started flickering every once in a while, and then the screen went black. Since June this problem has gotten more frequent. The computer is still on, sound is working, it is possible to do stuff only that I can't see what I am doing. I learned that the only thing to do is to close the top, go into sleep mode, open it again, wake it up and the screen works again. OR just hold in the power button and turn in on again.
The other day I also learned how to reboot the graphic card ctrl+shift+windows+B, which works perfectly as well.

There seems to be some things that make to screen go black more easily, like watching videos in full screen on youtube. In the beginning of the day it doesn't seem to happen that often, but once it starts it happends more often. It usually gets a little better if I restart the whole computer.
I tried every advice customer service gave me, update drivers, download drivers from website, update windows, load default settings in BIOS, reboot/unload mothercard, uninstall graphiccard, inactivate fast startup, system reboot. Nothing works to get rid of the problem, it just gets better for a couple of hours.

After reading about other lenovo blackscreen issues that resemble the one I have, it seems like it could be a problem with the mothercard? But would it in that case be possible to get the screen to wake up again by rebooting the graphic card which I successfully do?

I dunno, can anybody help?

Hello @JukkaPIdadf ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Please provide more information about your device. The machine type-model number (MTM) (ex 90Q800AKMH) from the underside or under the battery is best if your machine is a laptop. However if you are using a desktop machine it should be on the sticker, but please do not post your serial number which is normally in the same location. We will also be able to confirm that your post is in the proper forum.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jack_Lenovo1

Re:BlackScreen Legion Y540-17IRH laptop

Hello!

Same here, I'm having the same issue the past few months (6-7),  from time to time I'm getting some weird flickers, especially when looking up pictures on Facebook (fullscreen viewing) that triggers the flickers ALOOT, sometimes while watching YouTube videos and even while playing games, and sometimes even the display completely turns off and goes black/grayish, while everything else audibly is working in the background.

Everything seems to be updated through the Vantage software and nVidia

Next time I'll try the ctrl+shift+wkey+b when I'm stuck in the back screen.

Anyhow, its getting really frustrating, its not like thats some cheap laptop and with which I'm supposed to have troubles.

Specs are
I7 9750H
1660Ti
16gb
BIOS: BHCN42WW
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19043) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)
System Model: 81Q4

There's a DxDiag attached.

Thanks in advance for any tips/solutions

Hi. We have a similar problem. We tried a lot of things, but nothing helped. Only rollback to old drivers helps. The latest stable version is 452.06.

Sorry, I'm translating via Google translate.

I can confirm that downgrading the driver to version 452.06 makes it MUCH more "stable".
But the flickering and artifacts still persist. but NOT as often as with the up to date drivers, they're like once per 40 minutes now, unlike earlier once per 40 seconds.

I sent my laptop to Lenovo for repair and it is fixed now. If anybody is interested it was a hardware issue so they put on a brand new display on, got it on the warranty.  They wrote that it was something with a defect piece of cable. This is the last time I am buying a Lenovo product, the laptop has been standing on my desk all along altho it is a laptop and still there is a hardware problem. I've barrely moved it from it's place. I do not recommend this product.
