Re: Bring back fan control to the Legion Y740

My model is 17.3" 8750h 2060 16gb bought in February so probably one of the first.
I must add that one of the reasons for my concern is the temperature of the upper left part of the keyboard when the CPU hit 90c, I could fry eggs on it.

That portion is usually hot for all laptops like Helios 300 too but is aggravated by metal body of laptop

Maybe that's the difference, the 2060 has a fixed power limit of 80W, it does not change.

The top left of the kb deck near the screen can be a bit hot, because it's metal like @donotmention pointed out, that's where the heat pipes of the CPU go, it actually helps to dissipate the heat.

The keys themselves should be somewhat warm at most, mostly in the middle because it's where the chips are, if you keyboard is unconfortable to the touch because of heat, something can be wrong, you might have to contact support, in that case, probably you'll have to send it to repair...

Of course this might not be happening if we could just have control of the fans...

To be honest im not sure what it is you guys are complaining about.  This has been the quietest, coolest gaming laptop I have ever owned.  My temps never exceed 80 degrees and thats gaming with 144 fps in almost every game I play, besides scum at high to ultra settings. I have to figure out why im getting hardlocks though at reset some times.

I just want to be clear, On my machine the FN+Q sets the mode of the fans from performance, to auto to silent. So I simply put it to performance so the GPU will run at 97 watts while Im gaming to get the best fps.

The thread is self explanatory, we want to be able, at least, to max out the fans, this feature was available previously but it was removed in the latest BIOS updates and we want it back... No one is complaining about the quality of the PC, in fact most of us are quite pleased with it.

Please for y540 as well. Got many spikes up to the 90s while gaming, a more aggressive fan control in ac mode could change that

It's been so long now and I cannot believe this problem has yet to be addressed by Lenovo. I do not understand how anyone can consider removing max fan control can be a good thing for a gaming laptop.

I am still reaching spikes into 95c on the CPU while gaming and there is not much I can do about it considering I cannot game with air conditioning and I live in a humid/tropical country.

With so many compaints, there is no excuse, everybody, contact support and complain, maybe that way they listen to us, I've done that, don't expect them to solve your problem, but maybe if enough people compain, they are forced to do somenthing...

I had to return my current 15" 9750H w/ 2070 because of hardlocks on windows restart or shutdown.  Cant figure out in event manager what is causing it and I dont want to mess around taking it apart of reinstalling all of lenovos drivers after windows reinstall. Im getting a new replacement since iv only had it for 15 days.  If anyone else is getting hardlocks with their y740 when restarting windows or shuting down please post here.

Re: Bring back fan control to the Legion Y740

I have done every restore and fresh install possible. No undervolt. Disabling turbo. Different power plans. Every possible scenario I could think of- 1.6 causes the hard locks in both PRO and Home. 1809 -1903 with most recent updates. Even used driver easy to update drivers to newer driver version than what Lenovo offers. Even J95's debloated Nvidia drivers ,standard. DCH. Rolling back to anything lower 1.6 resolved It on the work laptop. But went back to 1.6 to finish testing.

1.3 with all above listed scenarios results in no lockups . The fan spins at idle 1.3 - keeping air circulating VS. waiting for heatsoak to occur before the fans ever attempted to spin in 1.6

The only thing I can put my finger on within the OS itself right before the hard lock is the Wifi NIC tossing a Netwtw06 error in the event viewer . I have used every possible driver for the wifi card - as it's made by Intel - killer branded .Even both Intel drivers and killers versions for the card.

So I think everyday I'm going to create a new thread asking for either a response or statement into why nothing has been said or done to remedy this issue. If nothing happens within the first few days. I will be reaching out to the BBB and a few other resources
