Re: Bring back fan control to the Legion Y740

Yes brightness changes were earlier, now not. What affected this bios update or "windows" will not say exactly. More thinking about the bios.

Re: Bring back fan control to the Legion Y740

You will only see 2-3c differences from LM to normal TIM if your heatsink isn't flat.

Notebookreview is where I normally hangout. And that's where I have screens and temp pics of my clevo p870tm-1 with prema's bios, delided 9900k and rtx2080 in that chassis. So I'd highly recommend browsing a bit deeper as swapping normal paste for LM nets alot higher than just 2-3c. On a 9900k with a shimmed heatsink and liquid metal in a laptop my idle is in the 30s and Max in 60s. I have used and tested and then thrown away more thermal paste than probably aloooot of people on the Lenovo forum. But this is part of what I do . Also, to anyone attempting liquid metal. Make sure you find the video (Mr.Fox has the video)  a foam dam to keep the LM somewhat in place.

Also note that if you do not drop your thermal pads in size of thickness by .5mm you are running a very big risk of not getting proper heatsink contact to begin with. Which that alone solved alot of temp issues. The pads around the gpu die (vrms) for example are 1mm thick. They need to be .5

And as for the posts I have seen here stating of swapping to a different brand thermal pad.. unless you change the size in thickness like I have stated above, you are doing nothing but adding more heatsoak to an already warped heatsink.

And I would definitely, MOST definitely swap the pads to the correct sized ones before attempting the LM.

And for those who are going to try and discredit any of this,  lol check notebookreview forum for mods , heatsink shimming and soldering, LM testing and other things that alot of us have already done and have proved tried and true methods. I don't even turn a my new laptops on until I have pulled the bottom cover off and verified that whomever the vendor is has attempted to put pads, paste and heatsinks in correct places . Especially that of correct size lol

Guys, guys... Don't lose focus here, what we all want is to have ACCESS TO THE FAN CONTROLS. I'm yelling to see if FINALLY someone from Lenovo, even the janitor, at this point, would be nice, can answer the freaking post.

I would like to know the official stance of Lenovo about this topic since the lack off intervention from any official representative seems to indicate that they received instruction not to answer the thread.
(Lenovo representatives continually respond to other threads but not to this.)

I have messed around with each bios and different ways of installing vantage. And I'm willing to guess they have broken something with the EC and unless the end user can set flashback to enabled,t either don't want to risk the possible bricked laptops they are going to have after getting a fix for fan control in place  orrrrr they have no clue as to how to fix it in the first place lol.

Maybe the fans are just working as they intended? I've had mind for a while and it hasn't caused a problem and has performed admirably.

Well, are they intended to put temp to 94C above? I think not. For me it's caused thermal throttling even after I undervolt to -0.170mv. So freq CPU drop, and freq GPU cannot pushed into max.

I have had 4 laptops with 9th generation core I series and every single one of them hit their thermal limits . Most stopped at 90 degrees. You'd love that.
