here is it: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3073930/how-to-temporarily-prevent-a-driver-update-from-reinstalling-in-window

check for "Download the troubleshooter", but you need to have older bios, boot to windows, run the troubleshooter and select new bios update.

is there a specific laptop youre looking at? I was looking to buy the Lenovo Y740 until i found this thread. I am not sure how big an issue this fan problem is, but the fact that there IS in issue, scares me. I basically just play Rocket League, starcraft, and personal use. So I'M not sure how much this problem affects me. HA

The "problem" is bearable as long as you do an undervolt and maybe limit the TPL of the CPU. The real problem is Lenovo refusing to fix the bugs they created updating the bios, for example, the "rainbow RGB" that can not be avoided during the powerup of the laptop.

It is not a problem. This 32 page post is all about people just wanting full control over the fans because they think they know more than the company that built it. I have a y740 with a 9750h and 2070 max q and it plays anything I could ever want . It's a fantastic machine and I've had an  Aero 15 , MSI GS65 stealth , Dell G7 , and the previous asus G15 and I prefered the Y740 over all of those.

If you dont do some changes(undervolt, decrease turbo boost, or cannot control fan), average temperatures of cpu while gaming is over 80 degres celsius. In long term, this is terrible, specific for motherboard. If I buy expensive laptop, I expect it to last 5 years, which I doubt with this temps. After changes, performance and temps are great, but you need to do this changes. There is one more thing about this laptop. I dont know if it is just mine, but the keyboard is terrible. Occasionally two keys gets stuck.
