Re: Bring back fan control to the Legion Y740

No key combo works to turn on max fans. My y740 17 is with the 9750h. And was received a week ago. 1.6 doesn't allow the fans to spool up until it's too late for the small cooling system this laptop has to try and play catch up. For those having heat related issues, I'd highly recommend checking your thermal pad height.

@code8

I have an 8th gen bought about 6 months ago and it works fine, maybe those people with problems don't have all the power and thermal drivers necessary for the PC to use correctly the thermal profiles it has, it is important to have the critical drivers like chipset,processor, etc. so the thermal solution can work properly, again, the issue that brought most of us here is the lack of fan boost options that were previously available, as the title of the thread states...

I have restored, clean installed, and everything in between. Drivers are all accounted for especially in a proper install order.My problem relied more in the QC issues vs the bios. But I can honestly say my Clevo P870tm1-g with a 9900k and Rtx2080 have none of these issues. But then again my bios on my Clevo was modded/created by a bios God.

The problem is, I think, they wanted to create a more smooth experience for the average user, so it looks like the fan curves a not that sharp, even in performance mode, I think that's fine, but for people who don't care about the noise and just want the best performance with no throttling, it would be nice to have manual fan control, I use to play BFV with uv -150, 200MHz oc graphics clock, 400MHz memory oc and max fans, I had performances in the realm of a desktop graphics card, now, it's still pretty strong, but less so than before, and in here lies the problem, the temperatures are not going down as fast as before...

I could see that, especially given how people complained about the noise. They need to get infront a Clevo if they want to complain about noise lol. These are gaming laptops. Noise is part of it to an extent. Headphones work great for noise related issues lol.  But I'd even fancy an option kind of like where you accept the TOS of a high speed fan profile or something. That way you accept the noise you are given in trade for a more consistent performance.

there are a couple of comments that suggest the issues are big:

  1. My Y740 is hitting mid 90s while on Chrome, making it very uncomfortable to use. Please bring back the fan control.
  2.  the new version of the bios seems to be slowing down units and making them throttle more,

I am starting to lean towards Strix Scar II

Lets not jump to conclusiosn here.  Its a fan issue not hardware.  I have not heard of anyone having to send their units back because lenovo QC was lacking.  Some thermal pads might not be seated perfectly but these are minor compared to some releases of laptops.  Check out some of the old posts for the area 51m.  People had to wait 4-5  months only to have their mosfets fry on them or GPU's burn up.  Many of the people on notebookforum have said they have had to send their laptops back 3-4-5 times and its only been out since this year.

Its not the end of the world because the fan control isnt what it was before.  Eventually their will be a solution.

PS. Their is someone that posted on this forum that said their Scar  was getting so hot it was warping the plastic so he had to send it back.

Just stay positive, its a sweet machine with more features then just about every laptop in its category and probably the best bang for the buck as well.

It would be nice if Lenovo gave us some kind of feedback, after all this is their official forum.
Before this laptop, I had an Asus Rog and Asus always gave feedback to users who wrote on its forum.

I do not ask for an official declaration but an acknowledgment of our requests.

Incompetence only changes if someone gets fired. And since nobody reads this before they buy the laptop, Lenovo assumes there's no problem.and all is fine.
