CPU Speed greater than specification in Lenovo Vantage

2020-10-21, 5:47 AM

Lenovo Vantage shows CPU usage as 3.97/2.4 GHz. How is this possible? Is my laptop overclocked? I was only running a window of Chrome at that time.

Heya,

No, this is normal.

Modern CPUs will "boost" or "turbo" to much higher speeds and they do this dynamically depending on the load.

Basically, they adjust their frequency to achieve the highest speed they can, but will automatically limit themselves depending on power and temperature.

Your CPU can boost up to 4.1 GHz on a single core and probably somewhere around 3.9 GHz on multiple cores.
