CPU speed problem

2021-04-30, 23:18 PM

I have a problem with my laptop L340-15IRH Gaming Laptop (IdeaPad). it started 2 weeks ago.
my CPU goes from 4.19 GHz to 0.9 GHz after 5 min of playing any game like control assassins creed unity/origin/Valhalla
/ battlefield 5 / Nioh 2 then sudden FPS from something like 60 fps to 20 fps. but when i play a game like FIFA 19 / league of legends game runs smoothly without any fps drop.
pls, someone help me i have been searching to fix this problem for 1 week now.

i just noticed that when my cpu speed returned to normal i heard a weird noise coming from my laptop it was a very low voice

all drivers up to date

I am also having the same problem. I play valorant and the fps drops from 144 to 50 after 30 minutes of gaming. All my drivers are up to date. This started about a month ago..earlier it was fine. Don't know what the problem is.. :(

CPU speed problem

If I were you I'd check what's happening with Intel XTU. The program will give you some insights if your CPU is thermal throttling or doesn't get enough power for your CPU. Also, do the same with GPU. In my case whenever my CPU slows down is because my laptop overheats.

First off, I don't think I will be able to help you but I did have a similar issue with a MSI Laptop which had problems with power delivery to the CPU which was caused [I suspect] by the defected battery but I have never confirmed it. In this case the symptom was defected battery where it wouldn't charge anymore and would last only for few minutes. How's your battery? I wouldn't say that the thermals are causing this.. Of course the thermals are bad but that's this cursed i7 9750H in thin laptops.. You're probably peaking 100C at some times just like me. I'd power limit the CPU because it isn't worth the risk of damaging the CPU for just few extra FPS. I'd mention this problem to Lenovo if you're still on warranty and if it expired I'd bring it to someone who could check the problem. I don't think you'll find the problem on your own.
