Cant enable XMP in bios to make newly bought ram compatible with legion 7 16achg6

2021-04-30, 23:28 PM

I wanted to install new ram to make the latency lower and improve my experience in VR, however though once i checked my settings i had noticed that my ram was running at 2666 (1300mhz) instead of 3200 (1600mhz).

Is there a way to fix this or enable A-XMP? I cant seem to find any setting related to this in the bios.

There is no advanced options setting in my bios anywhere.

Hello @rickje149,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

XMP profiling option may not be available on your model variant specially if you have already updated the BIOS. It would automatically adjust it value as preset on the same BIOS provided in your variant.

You can try updating the BIOS on your machine by downloading the update here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-7-16achg6/downloads/driver-list/component?name=BIOS%2FUEFI

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jack_Lenovo1

I have already updated the bios to the latest version, there is no option for this anywhere.

Its strange that i have the most expensive model with the best performance and this model was made for performance, yet i cant further improve it myself because of the option missing. I expected to have no limitations or issues when buying this product.

In some cases my system is clearly being bottlenecked because of the ram.

Will there be an option for this sometime in the future and will this be discussed by the engineers?

Could i get an update on my reply? Its been over a week and 2 sodimm ram sticks are laying here worth of 200 euro.

Could the A-XMP feature get added in a later bios update in the future?

Hello @rickje149,

Sorry for the late reply,

I apologize however I can't confirm if the feature will be added in a future update.

It may still be possible for you to get this done however that may require BIOS modification.

Hello @rickje149,

Thanks for writing back.

BIOS modification is often done by third party sites when they want to unlock additional options not made available by the OEM,

This can be done but additional research maybe required in order to get it to work.

Your system is being bottleneck because of your ram not scaling to 3200mz ? did you check other settings because the performance difference will be minuscule in Nano seconds for 2666mz and 3200mz. In my opinion it is absolutely not worth it to modify your bios for few Nano seconds.

By third party sites, do you mean the stores selling the product or something else?

I would like to know some examples so i know where to look for.

You just need to buy rams with JEDEC profile not XMP, like kingston hyperx 3200mhz cl20
