Charging problem in Legion Y540

2020-07-14, 13:35 PM

The indicator besides charger port, blinking sometimes.

I noticed that sometime it is blinking when I load a new application. (feels like software issue).

Sometime it gets okay by adjusting charging pin in port.(feels like hardware issue means port issue).

I have to put in-pull out pin into-from charger port many times to ensure that the charger indicator light is not blinking (means charging is going on well).

In short ..I cant understand it's a charger port problem or any software issue ???

Please give some response.

Re:Charging problem in Legion Y540

I also found this solution at service center and I have replaced my laptop's motherboard. Because luckily my laptop was in warranty period and I didn't have to pay any cost. Also I got the replacement of Charger from company. Because the main problem was in charger and that's why motherboard got the problem of power supply.

One thing that I have learnt from this incident ....Never miss to upgrade your laptop warranty especially when you're using the laptop above the cost 50K.. Upgradation of the warranty will cost you 4k to 5k....but This type of problems will cost you around 20k to 50k as you said.

So I think you have only one option that you have to replace motherboard..

Hi,

Welcome to the Lenovo forum community!

Have you tried booting into the BIOS settings program, and charging it from there, to see if the issue is also there? Its a good way to test if its software or hardware issue, Also i would suggest a static discharge, ill post the instructions for these down below:

Disconnect the charger from the laptop, and the wall.

Make sure the laptop is powered off, then press and hold the power button for 60 seconds.

Reconnect the charger to the laptop, then the wall.

Now try to start your computer.

Make sure your laptop is off, by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

You need to push the tiny button located (Go Here search with your serial number, then select pane "Knowledgebase and Guides" Then find the user manual and locate the Novo buttons placement in the manual), there is a small hole, with a button inside,

You can use for example, a paperclip to press it, after you have pressed the button, the laptop will power on, and present a small

menu, use the arrow keys to select BIOS Setup, and press the enter key to select.

Can it be a flea power problem ?

After applying first one solution, I noticed that while laptop is power off, the laptop is charging well, but when I pressed the power button and system was being loading, at that time indicator again started to blink.

After that, when system completed loading, the indicator stopped blinking and charging was going on well.

I am facing the exact same issue. The indicator blinks for sometime. Laptop gets charged for a while the charger is kept at certain angles. But that stops after a while. After several hours of this, now the laptop has completely stopped getting charged.

I am surprised to  see so many folks experiencing the same issue. My less than a year old lenovo Y540 also has the same problem. Power input pin fits loosely and needs to be adjusted to get the power on light and charging to continue.  Is this issue common to this model.

I have the same problem and I started a thread 2 days ago. The lenovo staff would not even bother to answer. I cannot stand the loose power socket as I put my laptop on my lap, if my body moved a little bit, the charging will stop and the laptop will run in battery mode.

I am planning to desolder the power socket and put a new one on it to solve this problem for good.

Guys. I desolder the power socket from the motherboard and replace the socket with a new one bought from amazon. And now the charging issue has gone for good. I just have some basic soldering skill and am able to do it. It took me about 1.5 hr including repaste the cpu and gpu.

I was planning to renew the warranty with lenovo, but the forum staff here is too disappointing. I would say forget about the customer service and warranty. Fix it yourself or bring it to a repair shop in your neighborhood.

Thank you.

I'm having the same problem. But when I use another y540's charger it charges smoothly. Do I have to buy a new charger or fix the port. My warranty expired 10 days back.
