Confusing BIOS update(38WW)

2020-07-15, 14:04 PM

I have a Legion y540, i5,1650. I have been reporting thermal issues here on the forum and also on its low battery life. Before the new bios update, it ran about 2hrs max in windows and about 5 hours in Ubuntu (dual boot) and then I got the update and suddenly it gave 4 hrs in windows and was happy. It was short lived and when I restarted my laptop the next day , it was the same 2hrs again. I donno whats happening here. I have tried all software tweaks and the only thing remaining is replacing the thermal paste. Anyone else facing this issue?

Re:Confusing BIOS update(38WW)

Today I was forced to update the BIOS by the Windows Update. I even tried to pause the updates, or uninstall it, but after reboot the BIOS was installed. Then I went to the BIOS and activated the option to be able to install an older versions (I was using 36WW). I reflashed with 36WW, everything ok. I restarted the computer and guess what? Windows re-installed the 38WW.

So it seems that we can't chose anymore the BIOS version that we'll be running. I'm always running my computer plugged in so I can't tell there's some battery duration difference. I was trying to avoid install the 38WW because I found some topics stating that it causes performance and temperature issues.

Use Microsoft's wushowhide.digicab portable app to hide updates in Windows 10.

Block Windows Update from installing drivers.
